    OK, help desperately needed.

Just had my studio 1647 delivered from dell outlet UK.
Spec is as follows in case it makes a difference: i7 620, 6gb ram, 500gb 7200rpm, full hd wled, blu ray drive.

Basically, I have had it no more than one hour. Within 10 minutes of turning it on, blue screen warning appears with various codes saying it has crashed and needs to be restarted.

I have no idea where to start. Thought I would post on here first, just in case someone has had the same experience and can save me scratching my head for hours. Anyone had this before? Maybe it is a known driver that needs updating?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

If anyone can offer their advice on the problem, or whether they would return it, it would be really appreciated.

I have spent the day tinkering with the system. Ran diagnostics, reinstalled windows, reinstalled drivers, updated bios. Problem is less frequent, but is still occurring.

Basically the system randomly freezes, then blue screen occurs with error code 0x00000124.

I have called up dell xps support, and they have me running a hard drive diagnostics test via the dell drivers and utilities disc. They will call back tomorrow to see if that shows anything up.

Somewhat ominously, the guy confirmed that the system had been previously returned because of random crashes! Does make you wonder about the 'certified refurbished' promise from the outlet.

What are my options likely to be if the problem can't be diagnosed? Presumably with the outlet I can send it back for a refund as it only arrived today. I would be really reluctant to do that as it was an absolute bargain.

    System config is i7 620, 500gb 7200rpm, 6 gb, blu-ray, full hd wled.

It cost me £580!! The processor was a bonus too, as the original configuration list on the outlet site stated i5 520.

I guess they won't send a like for like replacement. Is that right? Are my choices either going to be send it offer for repair or get a refund? What would you do given how cheap the system was?

What are the error codes that come up when it blue-screens? Maybe take a photo of it and upload it for us to look at. Could be any number of things, and is all-but impossible to diagnose without some information.

First thing I would try is removing one of the sticks of RAM and seeing how it goes. If it still BSOD's then put the other stick in. If you still have problems then it isn't RAM (or very unlikely).

If that doesn't work then it's Dells problem, could be mobo, graphics card, HDD, anything.

    Didn't it come with warranty?

Return it and get your money back.

Judging by the fact that you've bumped your own thread and don't seem inclined to post the codes from the bluescreens, you probably should simply send this turkey back.

Send it back, because you probably aren't up to sorting out the issue. Probably the previous bloke who sent it back wasn't up to it either.

Thanks for the warm advice. If you aren't up to helping then fair enough.

I posted the error code in my 2nd message.

Thanks. The main error code is 0x00000124. There was a list of other codes, but the screen moves too quick to catch it. I will take your advice and have a camera ready for next time.

You really need ALL of the codes. Take your photograph, transcribe them verbatim and do a google search. Of course, that's probably what the previous owner did as well.

Fresh install, and make sure to install all the proper drivers. If it persists, it's hardware problem.

I have bought too many Dell computers to count in the last 17 years, the ONLY one I had a problem with was a factory refurb. It was the first and last I will EVER buy.

Electronics are very sensitive, the term gremlins comes to mind. I will never buy a refurbished system, because when you buy a troubled electronic device it may never get fixed right.

Now it's hard to know why it got returned in the first place when you buy one, it might have been a simple failed CD drive that got replaced and it's as good as new. But in your case you know it was a glitchy computer. Ditch it now and go new.

    Hi chewyeong90.

I have been away for work for a week and missed your message. I have uploaded the dmp file as you suggested. If you can take a look it would be really greatly appreciated.

Dell came this morning and replaced the motherboard, but within half an hour of the technician leaving it has happened again unfortunately. The dump file is from the latest crash.
