    Hey,

I've been running Vista for a while now but I want to go back to XP

I've tried booting with the XP disc but it wont recognize the hard drive, only my external.

I'm not interesting in dual booting, would prefer just to format and install XP

does anyone know the easiest way to do this?

I've tried searching the forum but couldnt find anything.

    Thank you :)

You need to download the sata/raid drivers and either slip stream them into the installation cd or put them on a floppy disk and have XP look for them on the floppy disk in the beginning of the in stallation by pressing F6 key ( I used a usb floppy drive until I slip streamed the drivers into the installation cd). There are some excellent guides on this forum, you just need to do a search for them.

Hrer is one I just found by searching the forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=88032

    Try this Rizen...

I have a 1GB thumb drive which has the Dell Diagnostics on it as well as the current drivers for AHCI. When I have to reinstall the OS, I just plug in the thumb drive and at the prompt point to the driver. Easy and saves you a headache.

    For the drivers, use:

Use the following method to extract the files and then save them to a USB drive:

You need to do it from a floppy drive, as XP is kind of quaint that way. Only Vista takes USB sticks for this kind of thing.

Switch your SATA controller mode from AHCI to ATA and install the AHCI drivers after the installation if you want them.
