Hello everyone, im new here, joined last night.
i have ordered the dell xps m1530 on 18th july, my configuration is below,
Intel core 2 duo T7250, 2GHZ, with 2mb L2 cache, 800mhz fsb,
with standard config like 3gb ddr2 at 667 mhz, integrated sound blaster audigy HD audio software, nvidia 8600gt, what i have changed from stock is that processor n i opted for integrated sound blaster audigy HD audio software.
i have worked out much to chose this configuration, what i felt is most say the on board integrated audio is not much good in comparing to others, but that dell sales agent told me its a chip n not the software, thou i was fooled around?
ma laptop is expected to be delivered on tomorrow, i called the dell sales agent, after 2 days of ordering the laptop coz i wanted to go for penryn processor, but he said once placing the order we cant change the config,
my problem is can i upgrade the processor? and i need a good audio card for ma laptop, how can i install another audio card like x-fi, does it needs to remove the integrated audio chip that comes with dell ie sigmaTel chip?
i really need a clarity in sound while listening music, playing games, how can i go for an audio card, i don have external speakers for ma laptop.
can anyone tell me that, is my config is good one or not? how can i upgrade to a new Audio chip like x-fi.
thank you
have a nice day
bye

Welcome to NBR!
The processor is upgradeable, but will void your warranty and might be tough for beginners or those who don't know what to do exactly. As for the integraded sound card, I would think it's not upgradeable, much like anything else that would be integraded onto the motherboard. You can upgrade your sound card by getting an ExpressCard sound card tho. And as for the system itself, it's a good build, but it all depends on what you're doing on it. From the sounds of it tho, again, it's a good build and it'll last you for the years to come. -
where d the express card fit in? what about the on board sound card? do i need to disable it, how exactly the expresscard get me a good quality of sound,.
im using the laptop for basic purpose like music, movies, cad, gaming. i d really need a good quality sound while playin games n listenin music. where i can buy the express card? how much does it cost?

does buying good external speakers will get me a quality sound?
please suggest me a good quality speakers?

Nope u cant change the integrated sound chip. Its solder to the board. But I can tell u the chip is good enuff for normal listening of MP3 and games. Unless u have audiophile ears, u wont be able to tell much diff. Yor alternative is to install a software eg. DFX for mp3. But if u want audiophile type u may need an external USB sound card. Try creative USB live. Its $60 bucks and man it totally blew me away.

The best speaker for the price is this

u need 1 week of blasting to break in. Once break in, it sound just amazing. It has a wide stage and if u close your eyes, u would have imagine the speaker to be much larger than it really was. -
