hey I'm interested in buying the Xps m1530 but every time i go on dell Canada my configured laptop is like always close to 2000$, then i go here i see people are getting laptops that are better then my configured laptop and a lot cheaper.

so do any of you guys know of ways i can lower price? i have already chose the stock ram and hand drive because i figure it cheaper to upgrade after.

what is "EPP"? i hear it a lot but have no idea what it is lol, and i live in canada so the coupons wont work for me.

thanks a lot for the help.

    EPP = Employee Purchase Program.

It doesn't really apply to Canada I think. There are discounts available for countries outside of the US, but... very minimal. It doesn't help when Canada has 20% tax rate.

Indeed we do. I preconfigured an XPS to my liking and this is what I came up with:

    - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache)
    - Genuine Windows Vista ® Home Premium Edition SP1
    - (PRODUCT) RED™
    - High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4inch LCD (1440x900) & 2.0 MP Cam
    - 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
    - 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    - 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    - 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    - Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
    - 6 Cell Battery
    - High Definition Audio 2.0
    - 4 Year Next Business Day Onsite/In Home Service and Technical Support

    Price: $1,769 + tax

I haven't ordered it yet because:
    1. I don't need it yet and I'm still hoping Dell will refresh their XPS line in the upcoming weeks.
    2. My dad can get a 15% discount from work since his company uses Dells, so I'm waiting on that confirmation.
    3. I'm hoping the price will drop a bit if they will discontinue the M1530.

I want to minimize the likelihood of getting a bad screen, so would upgrading to the 1920x1200 screen help? What is everyone's experience with the high-res screen in general?

    3. -> be careful, if no dell leaks occur, it might be very possible for dell to immediately stop m1530 production and start new m1xxx production.....

the 1920x1200 is fine..... its the 1600x??? resolution (discontinued) that had problems.... but even so, its not like 100% u wont get a bad monitor... things do happen, nothign is 100%perfect

That's what I'm actually hoping for. I'm hoping someone will leak out some kind of specs and details on Dell's plan for the next XPS.

Then I can decide whether the new ones are worth it or stick with the M1530. Of course, I monitor this site and other gadget sites frequently so if it this occurs, a decision has to be taken immediately before Dell removes the M5130.

at wolf04, i heard that you have a better chance of getting a good screen with the LED Screen.
