Here are the two configurations I've come to, and I'm ready to make the purchase, depending on which offers the most features. Both prices are including shipping/tax:

    XPS 15 - $988.54

    - Intel Core i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics
    - Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
    - 15.6 inch FHD (1080p) B+RGLED Display with 2.0 MP webcam
    - Internal Backlit Keyboard - English
    - 750 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
    - Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 and Bluetooth 3.0
    - 8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)

    dv6tqe - $937.29

    - 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
    - 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    - 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - High Capacity 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.75 hours of battery life +++
    - 15.6" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
    - Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    - HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    - Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Wireless Display Support
    - Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad

So, here are some of my thoughts/questions:

    1) I've heard the B+RG FHD screen on the XPS 15 is fantastic. I'm just wondering if the dv6tqe FHD screen is anywhere close to the awesomeness of the XPS 15 screen.
    2) The 6770M is obviously a better card than the 525M. I won't be doing a ton of gaming, but would at least like to run current games on high, not ultra.
    3) XPS 15 has 8GB, dv6tqe has 6GB. Big difference? Note: I don't plan on adding my own RAM.
    4) Build quality of XPS 15 vs dv6tqe? I don't want my laptop breaking down every few months.
    5) dv6tqe has OpenGL issue, and I do plan on doing a lot of photoshop/3D work. But perhaps HP/AMD will fix the OpenGL issue in the near future?

In total, which one do you guys think is the best bang for the buck? Thanks!

    Isn't it obvious to you?

Worse display, less RAM, no discrete GPU for Adobe CS. All important things for your primary usage. FWIW, the DV6TE looks better but the XPS 15 has the backlit keyboard.

Actually the ATI 6770M outperforms the the Nvidia 540 by about 20%. But you forgot to mention that the XPS has a much better pair of speakers.

Thsi is pretty obvious. Overall, the XPS is better unless all you care about is getting the best gaming performance.

Congratulations, you are someone who knows what is good. Both of these deals are better than 99% of the forum posters are buying.

    1) I've heard the B+RG FHD screen on the XPS 15 is fantastic. I'm just wondering if the dv6tqe FHD screen is anywhere close to the awesomeness of the XPS 15 screen.
Dv6tqe has a nice screen, but XPS 15 has a nicer screen.

    2) The 6770M is obviously a better card than the 525M. I won't be doing a ton of gaming, but would at least like to run current games on high, not ultra.
6770m completely wrecks 525M. It is not even fair comparison. Detail settings don't really matter as much as resolution settings. If you want to play your games in 1080p (most likely low/medium), get the 6770m. 540m can't really play any modern games on 1080p period.

    3) XPS 15 has 8GB, dv6tqe has 6GB. Big difference? Note: I don't plan on adding my own RAM.
No, the real world price difference between 6GB and 8GB is only $10-15. I suggest you upgrade yourself and sell the 6GB.

    4) Build quality of XPS 15 vs dv6tqe? I don't want my laptop breaking down every few months.
Dv6tqe has some somewhat thermal issues. The XPS 15 has no real design issues. Build qualities are similar (XPS is not any better, the old XPS m1330 and m1530 were really a class above, aluminum build etc, now XPS is nothing more than a media focused consumer laptop).

    5) dv6tqe has OpenGL issue, and I do plan on doing a lot of photoshop/3D work. But perhaps HP/AMD will fix the OpenGL issue in the near future?
No one knows. Waiting a bit longer on PS won't really hurt you.

    tl;dr bottom line, imo

Get the XPS 15 if you don't care about the looks or will use it on a desk 90% of the time. Get the dv6tqe for more portability.

The screen in the HP is certainly well above average.

Though there was a post where someone compared it to his DC2 screen and said it looked washed out. The DC2 screen has a comparable color gamut to the XPS 15's screen, but it's an IPS screen as well which may affect his bias.

If you're getting the dv6tqe-61XX series from HP the dynamic switching won't work with OpenGL programs and games they will only use the Intel HD graphics. Just some thing to consider.

That was me who posted the DC2 comparision. After having used DC2 for a while, can't think of using anything less(The DV6T is for my wife). But what's more annoying in the DV6T screen is the bluish look. How does the XPS 15Z FHD compare to the XPS 15 FHD screen? Are they the same.?
Also, is the XPS 15Z better than dv6T for regular usage (no gaming, no photoshop) and portability?
