    Hello everybody,

I just received my xps 17 L702x today and I ran the recovery disc that I order from Dell(just the windows image). My original plan was to install only the windows recovery disc and download all drivers I need from dell support so I dont have any junks left over on my brand new laptop.

My problem is since I don't have any drivers installed on my laptop I can't use the web. No driver for my wireless or ethernet card. I just have fresh windows 7. Is that mean i have to use the other disc and just deal with junks dell have put on?

    Thank you

    Nope.
I'm not sure how you're posting this currently but my advice would be to download the drivers for either network controller to it and install them.
From there you can install what you choose.

Although the "recovery" disc that comes with your laptop is only drivers, no bloatware and you can install them individually too.

    Thanks stonetrap,

Im using my old netbook right now. I thought about downloading a few drivers onto my sd card but then I realized that I don't have the driver for that either on my new xps :D

So when I run the 2nd disc, can I choose what to install and not install the junks at the same time?

    Ah fair enough.
Yeah if you look at the folders in the disc there'll be one named drivers with numbers for filenames.
Open each file one at a time, it'll tell you what the driver is for and if you want to install it click okay and it'll do it!
Only install one driver at a time though or it could get messy

With the Dell disc you can opt for only the drivers...

I found this from Dell system recovery guide.

The drivers you need to install have a "checkmark" next to their entry in the list. Install the Drivers in the following order: (from top of list, to bottom)
    •Notebook/Desktop System Software
    •Chipset
    •Video Adapter
    •Network Interface Card (NIC)
    •Audio Adapter
    •Modem
    •Wireless Network Card
•Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboard
•Other Devices (Bluetooth Module, Dell Wireless Mobile Broadband Cards, PCMIA/Smartcard Controller)

but what about Nvidia gpu and others?

It's not great pratice but once you've got the basic system up and running you can install them in more or less any order these days. That method is a little outdated, as most people exclusively use wireless to connect to the internet so internet the drivers for that is more piratical than that of the Ethernet. It used to be alot different but hardware conflicts are much rarer now and the installation programs will generally check if there is an issue.
Once you have the internet set up I would recommend installing the drivers from Dell's website rather than the disc as they have newer, revised versions.
