Just got my refurbished dell 2 days ago. I've spent hours trying to get this thing to run properly.
First, the wireless speedtest came in at almost 1/2 of what my Lenovo thinkpad was testing at. I tried removing the Dell wireless utility, and the wireless wouldn't work at all. So, I re-installed it and turned off the N on the dell wireless card, and it is now at 3/4 of the Lenovo's speed. Still too slow, but better I suppose.
Now, randomly, the touch buttons (media controls, wireless on/off, and disc eject buttons) wont work at all. So, I can't get on the internet at all, as the "WLAN Card is still disabled. Slide the Wireless On/Off switch to enable it." ? I restarted the cpu 3 times, now it is randomly working again.
What is going on with this machine??? Is the Dell wireless 1510 card really that much slower than an Intel card? Is there some secret to make this thing run properly?
I had my last dell laptop for 2 years - Inspiron 6400 - worked great. I guess, to be fair, I formatted the hard drive on it and reinstalled Windows when I first got it. Should I do that on the XPS too? Doesn't seem like there is really much junk pre-loaded (besides MS Works that is definitely not causing these problems).
