Hello everyone new to this forum and wonder if i can get a little insight. Tryin to downclock my processor a little bit and was told to get my clockgen off my CPU so i can use setfsb. Well i opened my laptop wrote downeverything i seen on my CPU. IF anyone can help me with what might be my clockgen i would appreciate itSome insight on my setup is a studio XPS 1640, Duo cpu P8700 @2.53GHz. 4GB ddr3 64bit Vista.

You would need the information off of the clock generator chip on the motherboard but I'm not sure if SetFSB supports your laptop. Many laptops are not supported.
If you want to down clock your CPU so it runs slower then you can try using a program like ThrottleStop. To go faster, then you need SetFSB. -
SetFSB can't work with SXPS 1640...
Better try use ThrottleStop to fix the CPU to run at lower multiplier unless what you're aiming is lower speed than its designed.. -

You could try a PLL pin mod:

But I would just use ThrottleStop.
If you underclock with setfsb, your ram will also be underclocked, that can cause very strange things to happen if you have an IGP that uses system ram.
