Everything you could possibly want to know is in this thread:

Does that summarize it for you? -
I tried a few games in 1080p on my new xps l502 system and they run just fine with high res textures.

Thanks for responding, now left me with a question, if I have the xps 1080 and assume that you install a game and run to resolution 720 (1440x900) will look like if I have the same version xps 720? I mean, I have 2 laps a 720 and a 1080 now I guess I put the same game on both and set up the game at the same resoolucion for example 1440x900. The question is on the 2 screens will look as good the game? Since the 720 laptop would be in 1080 native resolution and resized to 1440x900. I hope that you are understood. Thanks

And I completely agree. I haven't seen the Dell HD displays, but the FHD display looks fantastic even when scaling up from a lower resolution. -
just played 1080p with codbo. SUCKS! 25 frames average in a heavily populated server. Gotta play 720p to get some decent frames and shadows off.

Just to distill this thread down to it's finer points, the 1080p screen can do 720p but the 720p screen cant do 1080p!
Help with new l502x xps 1080 or 720 for games?
