2 days ago my battery was "plugged in, not charging" so i figured my battery was dead. Since this morning it suddenly won't start at all. When i turn it on, the power button and bluetooth symbol light up briefly and i can hear the fan running but that's all i get. Nothing comes up on the screen at all. I've tried plugging it into an external display which also gets nothing. It does this with the power adapter and the >10% battery. What could it be?

    Thanks

If you are covered under warranty you should contact XPS Support. This seems to be a common issue with the M1530 as there are multiple threads.

    Likely causes:

    1. Bad AC Adapter Connector on Motherboard
    2. Power Supply connector is not making proper contact and needs to be replaced

You can also try to connect an external LCD to see if you get a picture, I doubt it though since you had that message re: the battery. If they end up replacing the motherboard, then this will also take care of a failed GPU if that is the cause.

he already tried to connect it to a external screen. read his whole post before giving advise batbpy. also your problem is not the ac adapter or ac connector. you most likely have a bad gpu or motherboard.

do this for me. hold down the fn key and power button and tell me what leds light up? check the numbers lock, caps lock and scroll lock. tell me which ones light up and flash and which ones just stay on. then i can tell you what it wrong with it. then if your under warranty you can contact dell.
