Warning , the following link contains hard to watch pictures of the upcoming DELL xps m1730 .

    http://notebookitalia.it/dell-xps-1730-in-arrivo.html

The bad news is that this monstrosity is real and coming by the end of the month . Rumors have it that everyone with "its a photoshop" post will get rep points deducted .

The good news is that we get another XPS logo on the underside , DELL is working on the m1740 keyboard which will consist only of 'X' 'P' & 'S' keys .

I'm almost sure it will have dual HDs but can only see 1 cover , the subwoofer is missing as well from the bottom .

It may no be pretty but at least you get lots of it , thick , +5kg and with a 230W brick will make your "old" 9400 and m1710 look like a thin and light . On the bright side it seems to have a very good cooling design .

To be fair most santa rosa 17" notebooks are somewhat over inflated , I'm not sure its a good idea to trade-in your 9400/m1710 just yet .

I dont get it. Its an ugly design, and ugly color AND its heavy/bulky.

Maybe it is a decoy to mislead rivals, hoping that HP, Gateway, Acer, Toshiba, Fujitsu, and Sony all scramble to produce something similar, so afterwards they can point, laugh and say "Hah! Gotcha!"

I don't understand how this and the m1330 share the same branding. Nor do I honestly believe that this is a final product. Given the sheer volume of orders and Dells inability to meet demand on the m1730's smaller brethren, it simply makes no business sense whatsoever that they would throw away potential custom with a larger design so incredibly vulgar.

Plus, I'm fairly confident that I watched a video about the m1330 on Youtube with it's designer, admittedly it was a shockingly bad promo of little real substance, but the connection was made between the m1330, m2010 and the future direction of the line.

If the same guy behind those model aesthetics is behind this one, as I believe he might be, this cannot be legit.

    ...

    Here's to hoping.

Btw its not my word ( take it or leave it ) , it looks real to me yet still can't believe DELL did it , my guess we will see some changes later on .

Maybe Dell is hoping to make money selling a lot of big decals for it.
Really really really big decals. ;) :D

Anyone who actually likes this design is likely to drive a riced car...

I thought Dell was making a step in the right direction with the 1330, but this sets them back in a major way. Yuck.

If these photos are actually those of the 'real' next-gen 17" XPS, it's not looking very good for Dell.

Across all the Websites where these photos have appeared, the reaction has been universally negative. NO one has expressed anything other than a negative opinion (except for a few "it's not so terrible, actually" type of comments I can only attribute to 100% lack of taste).

Dell can't be totally oblivious to this: to launch this notebook without making adjustments in response to universal criticism would be foolhardy in the Xtreme.

I'm disappointed that if I want to upgrade from my XPS Gen 2 to a 17" notebook with a Santa Rosa platform, I'll have wait a few more months at least.

...and there are lots of talented photoshoppers out there... yes, these photos do look real... but there are aspects to them that look quite fake... like the area around the round Dell logo on the lid looks too pixellated / not quite right: there is a USB port on the left side that is not aligned properly: it's kind-of lopsided on the case... and the red panels on the lid look too "regular" in colour... and no designer would be able to look anyone in the eye, as those Red panels are for lack of better term TOTALLY colour UNcoordinated with the rest of the design: it doesn't look "XTreme" or "Radical" or "edgy". It's just unpleasant to look at. Very basic design principles are violated, and not in a good way.

YAY!!!! I actually think it's not THAT ugly. I mean the colouring of the cover resembles Logitech gaming mouses. MX518 anyone?

Thank god I got delayed for my 1720, I might actually get this instead.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - it looks goddamned awful. I'm looking forward to only one thing - how Dell's going to spin it at launch... 'Innovative new design with an automotive quality paint job'...

Good point, that way we might have to pay less. I'll buy it as long as it's sub-2K

Cool, so Dell's actually looking at this forum. I really hope it's not a hoax, though the pictures are quite convincing and don't look to be Photoshopped.

I'd expect (hope?) tech support to have significant training on the unit prior to release, even more than sales: the notebooks sell themselves :) but they don't support themselves do they?

Pray tell, ocbaud, have you heard of any OTHER XPS 17" systems on the horizon? Can you confirm the Precision M6300? If the Precision is coming, and has a DVI output (the I1720 has only VGA!) that's a much more attractive option for me.
