I hope Dell will give us the option of matted screens.

I knew Apple was evil, and poisoning our youth... Now, I am going to McDonalds... that surely isn't bad for me...

My two cents in this is, I agree on the one hand. I personally have had more than one instance where glare has caused me issues with my screen. HOWEVER, I wouldn't go as far as saying the glossy screens cause you injury. Mirrors have reflection of light, why not stop them making mirrors?
I wouldn't trade my glossy screen in for anything, the quality is unequaled. It looks FANTASTIC. -
there is a solution to this problem though.....use your goddamn brain!

No no, I'll be inflicting injuries on others if they stopped selling glossy screens...ok maybe not, but still!

I once owned an XPS M1530 LED glossy screen and it was the best screen I have ever owned. It was perfect.
I now own a Lenovo T500 LED matte screen and I am not impressed.
Picture is grainy and the default color settings are washed out and skewed to blue. Although I have been able to fix most of the color/washed out problems, the XPS didn't have these flaws. -
Hi guys,
I just buy a Dell Precision with a matte screen in order to get away from the reflections on my HP DV4, so I guess someone always benefits!
I think everyone has different tolerances to glare and reflections, and of course everyone's working environment is different. However, for me, the reflections really were a big problem (the only benefit was being able to keep an eye on people behind me).
These days almost all consumer notebooks only ship with glossy screens. They have their benefits, for sure, but adding a little choice into the mix would hopefully yield happier customers.
Just my two cents' worth. -
I used to have Acer Ferrari 4005 with matte screen, there was no glare but the picture was bland, colours were washed up and brightness could be slightly higher as well. On my current XPS M1730 and on desktop 20" LCD i have glossy screen and the quality is better by miles, colours are much more vibrant, rich and deeper. I'm not sure how good was that Acer display though, it might be that i just haven't seen a high quality matte display. And the only time i see glare is during booting, once the shiny desktop wallpaper pops it's fine again, if the sun gets annoying i shut the blinds/curtains, and i don't work outdoors (M1730 isn't exactly portable).
In the end, i think it's a matter of preference and how is your workplace/home set up. Some people love bright rooms with lots of sun and no blinds, then glossy might get annoying. Some vampires like me prefer darker rooms and gloss is so much nicer there
