Hi,
Sorry I appear to be having trouble posting. I would like to know what the normal idling and gaming temperatures for a Dell XPS L702X is. I usually get around 40-50 for GPU and HD0 temperature readings and 45-55 for core temps from SpeedFan when idling. The readings I get when playing games are slightly higher, about 50+ for the GPU and HD0 and 60-70 for the core when gaming.
I believe the temperature readings for gaming are normal, although they have increased recently probably due to the warmer weather. But the idling temps seem a bit high. My other problem is that after I stop playing a game, the fans stop and the temperatures lower but never to the idling temps. During my last test, the core temps when playing were about 65 and after stopping, the temps would jump around from 55 to 60 which is a bit high and the fans become inactive. Are the SpeedFan readings a bit off or is this normal behavior?
Thank you.

You shouldn't worry too much about idle temps, but more about load temps. Your laptop's fans will initiate when your temps are too high
A lot of people using water cooling for the desktops (and i'm using this as an example) tend to worry about idle temps, but idle temps are NOTHING important really when you're on the computer. The LOAD temps are where you should worryBecause that's where true performance is at it's peak.

Thank you both for your input. So 70 something for core temps (I assume that's what the SpeedFan readings for the Temp 1, Temp 2, Core 0, Core 1 represent) is okay for gaming? Because at those temps, the left side of my laptop is very warm and sometimes even hot to touch near the exhaust vent.
Also is this info from an older post here accurate:
CPU danger temperature is around 75-85C (check the CPU's tech specs)
GPU danger temperature is around 90-95C
HDD danger temperature is around 60-65C
Because in the hotter weather now, my core temps are nearly climbing to 75C.
Thank you again for your help.

don't worry too much what those people say. Quad core runs quite warm, and 75 load temps are actually nice! i'm at 65-70 with very minimal loading. laptop runs just fine

More than likely, the high temps will damage the case/components around the CPU/GPU first after extended periods of time.

Just want to say thanks to all of you for your input
