Today, I bought HDMI cables and hooked my new XPS M1530 to my 52" LCD 1080p TV and it works GREAT!!! Crisp pictures! I never seen a TV do it this good before. It's got to be a combo of the XPS graphics & the TV's 1080p. See for yourself.

    Wow, thanks for the pictures.

Is it as simple as plugging in the HDMI cable?

I hooked it up to my sony bravia, and the picture looks like crap, but movie playback looks pretty nice. Is it because i have the intel graphic? And during the movie playback, the left speaker is much louder than the right speaker, any ideas why this happens?

You need to set up the resolution. It looks like you were still in 720x480.

I tried hooking my lappy to a 52in and it didnt look so hot. I just plugged in the HDMI cable in. Its looks "O.K." but not awsome. Only game loaded at the time was "WOW" and looked abit fuzzy, even after adjusting the setting in game.

Gratz on getting it to look awsome.

I hooked my M1530 up to my Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV using an HDMI to HDMI cable and let me tell you, it was brilliant! I had a time trying to figure out how to get the sound to work, but it was a simple fix!

on the HP laptop's there is a quick fix for this (to disable the sound from the laptop so that sound only goes to hdmi/tv).

i don't have my xps 1530 yet but on the hp if you right click on the speaker in the taskbar, then go to playback devices, then disable wave-out/speaker and enable spdif you should get your sound working on the tv through hdmi only. it disables the laptop sound.

i'm getting my xps 1530 today, i'll try it and tell you if it works. until then if someone can verify if this same procedure works wiht the xps...

hey guys i have a couple questions that are driving me crazy.
when i hook up my m1330 via hdmi to my olevia 32' hdtv, and im watching a movie, im getting these weird lines during action sequences (or a scene with a lot of movement). it seems to show up in the middle of the screen all the way across horizontally. they arent visible lines per se, but you can definitely see things overlapping. sorry i cant find better words to explain it. im using 169.09 drivers and windows media player that came with vista displaying at the native resolution of 1366x768. is this happening because i have the wrong settings or driver? Ive been reading that people are able to change "HD signals" via nvidia control panel (and i cannot) and maybe this has something to do with it. i get perfect picture with my macbook via mini dvi/dvi/hdmi. if theres any help of feedback i would be most grateful. thanks in advance.

I've been using my Acer 5920G as a media center computer for a while, now 1530 might take its place. It's great for HD recording and HD-DVD playback as well.

I plugged in my laptop just through VGA to a 40" Sony Bravia and the picture is very crisp and sharp. I do have matching resolutions so I guess that's probably why...1080p movies look ridiculously good, however my computer is too slow to play them...

Don't the XPS come with HDMI as standard on all models?

The dell Inspiration 1720/21 and the Vostro only come with DVI as standard don't they?

    Thanks

I think he was trying to say your 50" telly makes the M1530 look tiny in comparison (ie. like a (fictional) M1030, 10" version).

What about games? If you play a game at 1200x800 will it automatically take up all the 52" real estate ? Or should you change the resolution of the game first?

Did the games lag when resized to the higher resolutions though?
Or did the screen only act like a projector (i.e only stretching the image? )

My brother owns a Harmony remote, and he gave it up. Then again, he's only three feet away from the damn TV, but since we have satellite, he just needs the DirecTV remote and he's good. =]

I've just got my M1530 over the weekend and was wondering what programs you guys use to display Hi-Def content from your laptop to the Plasma/Lcd?

Also my screen res on my laptop only goes up to 1440x900 so how do you stream from the laptop to the tv at 1080p/ 1080i?

    Thanks.

I hooked up my m1530 to my Panasonic 50" 720p plasma. The picture was o.k. but it wasn't excellent. The shading didn't look very sharp esp. my background (I have that black XPS one). Is there a setting I need to change? Or is it just because my tv is 720p instead of 1080p?

Try this and see if it works:

(to disable the sound from the laptop so that sound only goes to hdmi/tv).

if you right click on the speaker in the taskbar, then go to playback devices,
double click on HDMI and you can make all kinds of adjustments there like this one...
then disable wave-out/speaker and enable spdif you should get your sound working on the tv through hdmi only. it disables the laptop sound.

Can anyone tell me how to output to my LCD in 1080i resolution. My TV can give a res of 1080i and I have a dvi to hdmi cable connecting the two (my Philips TV only has one DVI input), but the graphics card will only go to 720p and it looks pretty dull and crap. Any help would be appreciated.

I own an M1530 and am currently trying to hook it up to my Samsung 40". The samsung displays 1080p with a native res of 1920x1080, and I can set my lapop to the same res, but when I put the signal through the HDMI cable, it looks like crap. I can barely even read the words on the screen it looks so bad. It smears pixels from left to right. If I were to go into Paint and draw a horizontal line "-", it looks perfect, but if I draw a vertical one"|", it's three pixels too wide. It shows one solid black line in the middle, but it's surrounded by two dark grey lines, and with words, the extra shadows aren't consistant, so it makes things very hard to read. Another note is when I hook up a VGA cable from the laptop to the TV, it almost looks perfect. Every pixel is in place, it's just a little "eh.." because it's VGA.

Another problem I have is with the sound. I have the $25 audio software installed, but I can't figure out how to output 5.1 surround through the HDMI cable. It goes into my TV via the HDMI, the exits my TV through an optical cable and ends up in a 5.1 home audio system. By all means it should be able to playit.

If someone could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

It was pretty simple for me. I just pressed Fn & F8 twice to get both on the screen and crystal sharp too. The sound I just right clicked on the sound icon in taskbar and switch it over to HDMI. You can play with those settings once your in there.

I've read where you can use Vista Media setting to make adjustments, but I haven't tried that yet.

I'm new to this too... so if the above doesn't help, maybe some experts will jump in and help?

I fixed the video issue this morning. It turns out I had the sharpness turned way up, and it needs to be at 0. I still can't figure the sound out. I want to be able to hear if someone's sneaking up behind me in my games ;)

I'm not sure as I didn't have to. But I imagine you do it on the TV. Most TV's have sharpness, contrast controls.
