Any ideas? I can only get Stereo.

    This is what I see:

As you can see, the "Configure" button is greyed out.

    Tearing out my hair here!

I think it is a problem with the Sound Card in the both the M1330 and M1530.

The Multi-speaker outputs on them are the Front panel jacks - not HDMI (see the Sigmatel Audio Control Panel)

I think the HDMI connector can only either do stereo and/or uncompressed multichannel audio (e.g. Dolby Digital/DTS)

There is nothing to configure. You simply plug the HDMI cable into your Surround receiver and it does the decoding. Your DVD player simply sends the multi-channel stream, be it 5/6/7.1, over the HDMI port.

What the M1330 sends depends also on:

. the CEA EDID property information that the M1330 receives on the HDMI port. The data structure can be displayed with
    http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm
However I don't know whether this information is parsed as well by Moninfo or whether only the video information (not audio) is displayed in human readable form
. as such it depends on the target device: A stereo TV won't propagate 5.1 capabilities and M1330 won't sent it. That's part of the HDMI Spec. It will send 2 channel LPCM in this case.
. depends on the graphics driver: This is the one which accesses the graphics hardware to actually read the EDID information. I know intel graphics drivers did omit some audio modes and it wasn't possible to use them (the windows sound stack relies on this information).
    . the player

I'm unsure about the configure button regarding HDMI. Can't test it currently with HDMI, since I'm lacking a HDMI audio receiver.

What's the driver and revision of your HDMI device (device manager)?

Ok, dont pull out any more hair, Config button is greyed out on my setup also :)

If you select the Properties tab, or just double click on the HDMI device with the green tick, you should see a new window with four tabs labelled "HDMI Properties.
Now, if you look at the Supported Formats tab, you might want to select the Encoded Formats and Sample Rates which your reciever is able to decode. You will be asked to test each setting change as you go through the list, in order to discover what what limitations of your receiver are.
I am unable to test this for you further as I dont use a digital decoder, however, I am able to set things up so that I dont get anything from my analogue reciever, suggesting that I am no longer sending merely a Stereo signal.

So I would try the above, then perhaps look at the Advanced tab and see if you get any more options to configure for your speaker layout, though this may be taken care of by your reciever.

    Hope this helps
