Did you try first uninstalling the dell driver?
And make sure when you install the official nvidia driver, you do it manually in device manager, force the install and ignore any warnings. -
Yes but it's impossible.
-
I've tried it and run into the same issue. Not compatible for our systems, and the download link for updated drivers on the dell site for both the intel integrated graphics and the nvidia gpu are both broken.
I haven't had time to sit down and report the issue to dell though so they can be made aware of the problem. -
the links aren't broken anymore but the problem is still the same, the version of theses drivers are too old !

tried NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com ?
if there's not a beta/WU/developer build, they have modded .INF's and other tools. -
-
no they doesn't work ...
-
-
I took up that issue with a Dell technician at Dell USA and it seems that you cannot install NVIDIA drivers from the NVIDIA website because Dell has made it so for the cards on the XPS machines.
From what the technician said they had to mod the cards and thus adapt the drivers so it would work fine.
Dunno if this help.
Personally I would not installed a modded driver for the graphics card as if something goes wrong, it could very well void your warranty. -
-
Video chipsets are video chipsets .. and drivers are drivers .. It's all in how they are installed , thus the modded INF file from Latptop2go works and works well.
I work in IT support and have for 12 years and I read between the lines of that and see "We don't know yet because these machines are brand new".
The fact they don't have a working driver on the DVD shipped with the unit and off the website is a major problem that they need to correct asap.

Am I missing something with the laptop2go video drivers? the modded inf's make no mention of the GT420m Or am I just tired and not seeing it?
-
For those of us that do, these drivers may be hit or miss.
-
I gave 263.09 plus the modified INF a try and while it did install the drivers, it broke the GPU switching function; it will not switch to the GT 420M when 3D applications are loaded.
It would be fantastic if Dell can release a new BIOS that gives the end user the ability to select from integrated or dedicated graphics, or auto-select via Optimus. -
-
The problem is when we have 2 graphics cards with switching mode ... drivers from laptop2go don't work in this configuration ! -
up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
-
I was able to install the nvidia driver from the Dell CD that comes with the system. It took a while, but it seems it needs to have the Intel Graphics driver installed as well.
-
-
Up Please !!!!

All noobs here don't want to upgrade nvidia best drivers for video card ??
-
Kilicool... come on!
1) just because people do not answer in your thread for a day or so does not make them all "noobs"
2) So far there has been no other alternative than the laptop2go (something like that) drivers and even those are not fully compatible.
Bottom line, be patient and wait for Dell to release updated drivers.
And if you cannot stand it, go scream at Dell. -
They are NOT compatible, not "NOT FULLY" but "NOT AT ALL"
-
Thanks for clarifying that then.
Again, wait for Dell to update their drivers. Coming to bump a thread everyday and complain that they are not there is not going to make them come any faster. -
Still no news!
-
Okay... paint me stupid but, what is wrong with the current Dell drivers? Something does not work with them? They are good enough for games? Are they so inferior to the nvidia drivers?
Someone explain me, I really do not get the urge to change drivers which, from what I've seen for now, work fine in the machine... -
If you think new drivers will make these mobile Fermi GPUs work dramatically faster, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. -
The new drivers make our TV 3D compatible trougth HDMI !!! Since 260.99 not 259.51 :'(
-
I've tried 260.99 for my 435M GT from the nvidia website, but it said it couldn't find any compatible hardware oO.
-
You need to install the drivers w/a modified INF available from LaptopVideo2Go
-
I messed up a bit about this discussion.
If I understood well, sounds like Dell modified the usual way Optimus works between discrete and integrated GPU (that should be usually supported in "Verde Drivers" if i've read right on nVidia site), so we can use only their own drivers to have the switchable function working. Considering that the Intel HD is the main card recognized by the system, having the switching disabled means that we always use the integrated one. Am I right? -
-
We KNOW!!!
kilicool, really. It is getting borderline annoying. Apart from the 3D TV compatibility issue, is there anything else?
I'm not too surprised it is not yet fully implemented. Do you know a lot of people who have a 3D TV?
If you still feel that it is taking too much time (I'd love to see you code), you should contact Dell. -
Well here are the release notes:
-
The only driver other than the Dell factory ones that works is 265.55, although the DEVICE_ID String is messed up, but I can fix it. Haven't noticed anything different from the factory drivers; 3DMark06 score went up ~200 points but that's almost a negligible difference.

I use Cyberlink PowerDVD to play Blu-ray discs, outputting the video to my TV and the audio to my receiver. PowerDVD 10 Ultra is the only version that allows bitstreaming with the GT 4XX series of cards, but even that requires 260.xx drivers or better. I have tried the 263.09 drivers from laptopvideo2go and I can verify that they do in fact enable bitstreaming to capable receivers (in this case, an Onkyo HTS-6200). I decided not to keep the drivers installed since there were some problems, such as: incorrect display name for the video card in Device Manager, and no selectable display resolution options in the NVIDIA control panel. That may not be a big deal to some, but I'm banking on Dell releasing a couple more video driver updates before this system is forgotten, so I am doing my best to wait.
I really hope that Dell can bump the driver versions up into the 260.xx range. Looking at the revisions, A02 (the current NVIDIA driver download available from Dell for my system) came out the 23rd or 24th of November. I have no idea when A00 was released, but perhaps we'll get another driver revision in time for Christmas? Fingers crossed. -
i was able to get dts hd bitstreaming with the dell drivers and total media theatre 5.
still looking for newer drivers, as i need them for premiere cs5 hardware acceleration. -
-
Yea, I can't seem to find 265.55. Can you please link us? Thanks
-
This is the latest from laptopvideo2go: v265.66 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | ASUS Mobile - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
Download the drivers and the modded INF. -
-
-
Where do you post the modded inf ? in witch directory please ?
-
-
-
Oki thanks you ! and optimus work rigth ?
-
I tried both methods from device manager with 265.66.
1) Letting windows automatically use the general directory of the driver to install it
2) Using have disk method and selecting the modded INF inside the driver's folder manually
Both methods provided me with "No compatible hardware"
Am I doing something wrong?
Oh and the mirror for 265.66 isn't working on laptopvideo2go forums. Weird
