Title says it all. I have a tech coming out tomorrow but I seriously doubt he would be able to fix it. They won't even tell me what screen they are bringing out to replace it with.
-
-
Yea there's really nothing you can do (at least I don't think so, because the problem is with the actual LCD screen, not software or anything) besides have it replaced and hope you get a good one.
-
The only way to fix it is to replace it. It's a physical fault of the panel itself, it needs to be replaced with a good one to cure the issue.
If the one he replaces it with is no good, tell Dell and try again basically. -
just get the screen replaced and all will be well
-
screen will be replaced? sweet. enjoy
-
I'm trying to get it replaced problem is they won't tell me if they will replace it with a good one. Any clue on how to do that?
-
I find if you open the LCD and clean the sand out of it, it usually fixes the grain.
-
Well with a tech coming ask him, he has nothing to lose by telling you. Just ask him if it is new or refurbished.
-
As I have already posted, I received my second m1530, this time with a WSXGA+ screen. It turned out to be the infamous SEC3350 (AKA grainy, sparkly, etc). I got in touch with Dell XPS support and told him my problem. I told him I had the part number for LG monitor. He was great. He did the required troubleshooting, after which his troubleshooting program recommended that my LCD be replaced. When he started to enter the order for the replacement LCD, the default screen that was suggested automatically was the grainy SEC one. He then replaced the default part number with the part number that I gave him (XK309), and his system took it! The LG screen is now being sent to the local techinician to install it. As long as he doesnt scratch up my computer, this should take care of the problem.
So for all of you out there, it is possible for them to order the correct screen -- BUT ONLY AS A WARRANTY ITEM REPLACEMENT. He said that if he did a whole system replacement (since I am still within my 21 days) then he would not have been able to add the specific part number other than to a general text field.

Hope this helps. -
I tried this but he said there was only one model in the warehouse. I told him the part number but would not give me any hint on what it was. I'll call and try again.
-
Try again... not only did he say that the part number I gave him was taken by his system, but I also got a separate call from Dell within and hour saying that they were fullfilling the part order.
-
Hahah well have you tried calling dell and asking them? Sounds like you would be getting a new system.
-
The c631c was the part number he said. Hmmm new item or BS?
-
Outkastland: I'm not sure you understood my post.
Flyinfungi -- the part number for the WXSGA+ (1680x1050) was the one I found online: the XK309. I just did this about 2 hours ago. He read me the model number back without me telling him and it was the LG... that's how I know he wasn't feeding me a line. -
The tech said that was the skew number (spelling?) So I am good to go it seems.
-
Well that's good news. I hope it works out. Hopefully you will be all set now. -
Quick question for those who ordered the XK309 specifically:
Did you go through Customer Service or Technical Support to request the panel replacement? Thanks! -
Yes, also buffing the screen with a fine grained wet sandpaper will resolve the issue. Only takes like 2 minutes, to irrevocably ruin your screen in this manner.
-
XPS Technical Support. I had to go through 2
-
Hazzah! Got a 100 dollar Coupon from dell now too!
-
LOL, I was hoping someone would ask "How do I get the sand out?!" lmfao..

We're the only ones around here who give good advice.

I have LG with hardware id LPL0301 on my XPS1530. It is WXGA 1280x800 15.4". Does anyone know Dell part number? Please let me know because I search everywhere, and I can find any information at all.
-
today I had my old LCD 1050X 1680 replaced to nice LG but they got the wrong resolution . Now I have 800 X1280. the tech guy ordered the third one. after I read this thread I decided to call them .
I'm on the phone with them right now on hold waiting for a supervisor because I found out that the one that is being shipped now is also 800X 1280.. how scrwred up is that.
I feel that I should return the damn thing and go buy me a mac pro .. extra money but less headache..
now still on the phone they got the right part # but it was Samsung, I said no I want the LG.. so Now I'm on hold again....
I will update soon..........
this guy i'm talking to is really nice, he is really on it. he is trying ,, no promise yet....... but he is on it. he said he have to get a promision for replace part with one that is not the same #.. so he is chating online with diffrent dep. and I'm waiting..
Well he DID IT 80 miutes later... I will get what I want ...... WSXGA+ 1680x1050 Panels
LG Philips LPLF300 - Dell P/N: XK309 - Size: 15.4".
The Tech support office is in Utah..he told me so.
I really hope that I will not call any one any more. -
Just keep at it, they should eventually get it. When they get to the order screen, it should automatically recommend the samsung one. Tell them instead to enter the XK309 Dell Part number. It will work.
-
Hey,
Can you tell me the part number for the wrong LG WXGA 1280x800? Please!!! I really want to know since you have the wrong part ship. You can get the part number for me. I will be very appreciated. -
this is the name on my computer for the LG 800X1280
CPT141F
so this is not the part # . but I will try to find it.
edited:
I can't find a part # but I hope that the number above can help you make sure that it is LG monitor. I will keep trying.. -
How do you get CPT141F? Are you looking from hardware ids? Thank you for your reply.
-
I have the CPT141F too. I think its not the lg...

I spent some time searching for you, but unfortunately I cannot find the DELL part number. But I beleive that LG's part number is LP154W01 or similar. Sorry I couldn't do more.
-
I think, I got it!!! It is NU763. I talked to Dell XPS tech, and I asked him to look up the part number for me since my original one had LG screen. I also got another part number too, which was C931C. This one is chinese brand if I am not mistaken because it came with my replacement system that I switched the screen out. C931C is the grainy one for WXGA.
Thanks for you help. I hope my information will help you in someways. -
What's the Part # for the WXGA+ 1280x800 LG panel for a 1530? Dell is sending me a replacement panel tomorrow for my crappy Samsung display, though I'm not holding any hopes for an LG replaceent.
-
LG WXGA 1280x800 Dell part number is NU763.
-
Is that WXGA or WXGA+? WXGA+ is the TrueLife glossy 1280x800, while the WXGA is the matte finish 1280x800 (not offered on any 1530).
-
YES.................
-
Well, just to let you know that the screen isn't LG. I think it is something like chinese brand. Anyway, I am glad that you will get another exchange. If the tech scratch your lid, you can ask for a new lid too.
-
I think you make a mistake here. The screen options for M1530 is all glossy (True Life). WXGA is glossy too. Where did you get an information that WXGA on M1530 is matte? I am typing on my M1530 with WXGA right now. It is a glossy screen NOT matte.
Do you want to check your source again?
-
Okay, I believe you're right. On the 1530 the WXGA is a 1280x800 glossy, while the WXGA+ is the 1440x900 glossy. My 1520 WXGA matte screen was confusing me...
-
yes, no question about it. to replace the LCD they only have to remove the frame Surounding it then some scrows.. so if any the part would be damagaed is the frame. this part can be sent to you so you can replace it. just call them and complain if something like that happens. the guy who came to me was very careful.
-
So I followed all of the recommendations on this thread and got a Dell rep to order the part number XK309 for me because I got the Samsung grainy screen with my 1530. He tried to send me the c931c but I told him I didn't want that one. He also said that his system did not show that part # XK309 would work with the 1530. Is this something I should be concerned about? Are we all sure that this display will work with the 1530? I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence on this thread. I'm just a bit concerned after my conversation with the Dell rep. Thanks.
-
That's interesting -- the Dell Tech agent didn't tell me it was incompatible. He just entered the Dell LG part number on the order screen and submitted it. Did they send the XK309 screen to you or did you end the phone call without resolution? Did he say that the Dell program specifically said that the XK screen was incompatible or was it just not listed for the m1530? There is a big difference between the two.
I guess I will find out if it is compatible next week when the technician comes by to install it. Maybe someone else will have results before me. I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't work. -
DELL doesn't have part numbers for every manufacturer of the screen.
The part number refers to just a type of screen it is, it has nothing to do with manufacturer.
a 15.4" WXGA has a part number, a WXGA+ has a part number and so on and thats it.
Thats why I have gotten different brands under the SAME part numbers.... All Dell knows is that part number refers to a type of screen, not a brand.
I hope that's clear enough so people can stop misfeading false information. -
Yes they do...I just confirmed this on the phone with support...
I also have experience working in the Sourcing industry and know for a fact there's ALWAYS different part numbers for different manufactures. However, very often yet another part number is assigned to similar parts from different manufacturers...in this case, this is the part number that SALES uses to order.
I hope that clears it up for you. -
Done plenty of screen installs for myself and friends..... they dont have different part numbers for different manufacturers

You can live in denial,or just admit that you are wrong. -
Dell probably have one part number for each display resolution and several approved manufacturers. They probably refer to this as SKU (Stock Keeping Unit, not " skew" as someone wrote earlier).
The manufacturer LG, Samsung and others of course have their own part number scheme so each display is likely to have a least two part numbers; A Dell part number and A Manufacturer Type Code, ie LG's part number for the same item.
In addition to this there might be regional differences for what part numbers are available. I live for example in Denmark and the parts used in the m1530 sold here might not be approved for US or vise versa.
I don't work for Dell or any other computer manufacturer, so I'm just speculating here.
I was thinking of ordering a m1530, but looking at the Poll only 49% of the users were happy with their laptop. That's a fairly low rate imo.
I'll be browsing some more on the forum before I hand over cash to the Dell. -
49% thought it was excellent, 65% were happy with it, but my interpretation.
Still not that great of a result, however I believe the actual values are much higher. A large proportion of users only come here when they have problems or want to complain, so the poll is actually skewed worse than actual. -
quite right you are Sonicwind. I agree most users do not go anywhere to state their happiness with a product. Users with issues are likely to google solutions and may drop by here. Point taken.
-
You are so poorly misinformed...

I'd say he's quite well misinformed.
How do I fix my m1530 Grainy Screen?
