Got a phone call from BancTec, who do repairs for Dell in the UK, and they are sending an engineer round on wed to replace the screen. I told the women to check , and she has said that it DEFINITLEY is an XK 309. I told her that otherwise I would be sending the engineer away again !

    Roll on wed . . .

just got off the phone to Dell support they've agreed to send me a new panel and mobo as i'm getting black lines across the screen and the guy said he didn't know if it was the mobo or the panel. I asked for the xk309, he said he couldn't order it same as others have been told.

My service call is showing this as the part for the new panel

Y274C SERVICE KIT..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF

i know some people have said its just a generic code but some have said its definately an LG panel. any1 got any further information on this?

i did ask them to send an LG one or i'd be sending the laptop back. which is a shame as its really good apart from the black lines and the grain when looking at anything that is white ><

re: Widge's response regarding RossC's service call parts information:

what "A" for "AU Optronics"? the "A" in WSXGA+ stands for "Array" as in Widescreen Super eXtended Graphics Array... and VESA is the Video Electronics Standards Association...

or did I miss something in RossC's post?

BTW I'm in RossC's situation myself right now - made the "call" to XPS Chat Tech Support last Thursday, the rep didn't argue with my reasons for wanting a replacement (I used primarily complaints around the bezel not being seated properly, and that the viewing angle and brightness (lack thereof) are terrible compared to my 2-yr-old E1505 and 4-y/o 8600), but said they couldn't specify the XK309. He did say he'd put in a comment thought that I would only accept an LG panel. My service call info reads exactly the same as RossC's - "Y274C SERVICE KIT".

***Update as I write this - the QualxServe technician just called me, I had him check the display mfg, and it''s a Samsung... told him no point in wasting time ripping the display apart to replace it with the same thing, so he's going to box it up and call Dell, tell them I will only take either an XK309 or DW306 LGP panel. We'll see what happens. :-(

Oh one more point of clarification. The A in "AU Optronics" stands for Acer, since AU was formed by the merger of Acer Display Technology Inc and Unipac Optoelectronics Corp...

The A in AU being Associated... his part mentions Assoc. at the end of it.

I'm gonna do the same thing when the tech rings me, tho i've said to come on friday as i'm in Birmingham this week for part of my MCSE, so I prob won't know for a few days yet altho I did say to the rep i spoke to to put a note saying i wanted an LG screen or it'd be going back. so I guess time will tell.....

really annoyed tho as the item really should be perfect right off the bat especially when you pay close to £1000 for it, shouldn't have to deal with all this **** :(

funny thing is the rep told me the samsung screen is SUPPOSED to look how it does lol

To Chris + other UK people

Best thing is to phone BancTec, and ask them to open up the parts there and then and contact you if its an LG part - if it is then get straight back on the phone to Dell.

I know how you feel. Even though I'm in the us, when I told them I wanted the LG and gave them the part number- then they said that's what was in my laptop- lied to me!!! I still can't believe that.......

and as has been said so many times- this should have been corrected. We're spending a lot of money and this is my 3rd dell in 1 1/2 years......

if you're talking about my post

    NO, NO NO

I did not mean to imply that. What they tried to do is tell me that I had the LG in my laptop. So I read the the properties tab from the devise manager and then he checked and said oh, my mistake. They try to do anything not to replace the samsung lcd- sad deal!!

It is just a generic part number. You could get either a Samsung or an LG. The only guaranteed way to get an LG is to have them specifically order you an LG screen, under the part number XK309 or the other new LG screen, the DW one.

Is it just one lcd that is bad the 1050 or is it all the screens including the 800 and 900 res?

Cause if its only one, dont mind downgrading, its not like I will be able to tell the diff between 1050 and 900

    Thanks

The tech just called me to say he had my display and once again they sent out a Samsung. I'm on the phone right now with Dell on hold hoping to resolve this.

FYI, Y27C is just the code for screen replacement. I know because I've had it used twice and both times they sent the Samsung.

Still on hold, wish me luck!

Just got my laptop tonight. I had the DW306 part number and if I go to my hardware ID, I have LPL010F. LG screen and the display is brilliant. I've been busy all night getting all my files transferred from my M1210.

Thanks, I guess it pays to be persistent and be polite. This is my 3rd attempt and first time I was able to get them to actually put the part number I suggested in to the order. Only problem is they don't show a shipping number or date on their website so my guess is they are back logged on the LG's.

Just had my 15.4" WXGA screen replaced - poor viewing angles, backlight bleed, buzzing backlight etc. Guess what, I got a Samsung replacement and it's perfect with no grain, even backlighting, better viewing angles. Sort of pours water on the "all Samsungs are rubbish" claims.

I think it is only the wsxga+ 1050 screens people are complaining about not the 800 and 900 res, as I think these are all ok, could be wrong though

****How do I fix my perfect LG XK309 and get the new LG dw306*****

    1. Contact dell and tell them that everyone else has a dw306 and it looks much better so you want it NOW.

    2. Burn you xk309 and refuse to use your notebook until you get a dw306.

    3. Wait on hold for many hours just to get disconnected.

    4. Drive to dell Canada and wait outside until they bring you the dw306.

I hope everyone has a dw306 soon and refuses to use the xk309 :)

    They are just joking around...

today i got my xps1530 with the dreaded samsung screen and all i can say is WHAT A F**ING PIECE OF SH*T, its AMAZING how bad this screen actually is.

I immediately rang dell and asked for a full refund. I already have a 1420 and the screen is pretty good, and considering that now in march college is starting over here i wont be playing any games whatsoever so the 1420 will do just fine, goodbye to the xps1530...

ps. as it were little, my xps1530 also had the fan CONSTANTLY turned on and the cpu whine. what a piece of crap man, my trust in dell is really starting to fall apart.

I just received my M1530 and got the dreaded Samsung screen. However, I kept an open mind and asked several people to check out the screen and comment on it. Most said it was darkish and blurry, so yeah, I think that I have one of the problem screens.

Dell support was pleasant, however he tried to sell me on the fact that it may be a driver issue, which it of course was not. Then he actually asked me to take a screwdriver to it and reseat a possible loose cable. I drew the line here and said that I would prefer a tech come out and do it. He processed a new screen and we closed the call. Less than an hour later, I received an automated call from the service company that stated they'd be by my office with a replacement tomorrow afternoon.

Now I didn't specify that I wanted the LG screen on this call. I figure I'd let them send me whatever they had and if the issue persists, they'd have no choice but to replace it with an LG the second time around.

All in all the machine is spectacular, save for the sandpaper screen.

Got my XPS today (5th Mar), guess what - grainy screen.

I phoned technical and the guy said my screen was definately not defective as the problems with the Samsung panels have been fixed and that the effect
was because of an anti-radiation coating, if he was talking about anti-light radiation he was correct, it's dull, and wide viewing angles are appalling.

After that load of bull**** I asked for a refund. He then had the balls to ask me if I was satisified with his performance  !

    It's being collected tomorrow.

    Sigh :(

Had Dell Tech come out today as i had a issue with my samsung screen "nothing to do with the grainy issue" was an issue with the screen coming in and out of focus when you moved it. Guy replaced my samsung screen with another samsung (i did request an LG) and the viewing angles are appauling if you tilt it up at all it just goes black but it is working now.

I rang tech support and they refused point blank to replace the screen saying its the screen that the xps is designed to work with. He then said after this scripted chat that yes we should replace the screens as they are all pretty bad your only chance is to get a refund and then try and request a new XPS system with the screen you want to the sales rep.

I think they have now changed their policy in the UK maybe and are no longer going to replace systems with the LG screens and only Samsung "saying the samsung screens have been fixed". Your only chance is to get a full refund and request the LG screen when ordering.

The M1530 is an excellent machine but is let down by very bad screens the reasons why they would make a machine with such a poor screen is beyond me.

Why do Dell still send systems out with cheap a** screens??

    Hey guys,

Just ordered a M1530, with the 1280x800 screen (UK).

Are they shipping the crappy Samsungs still in this res, or will I more than likely receive a XK309 LG?

    Any info greatly appreciated :).

XK309 is only for 1680 x 1050 resolutions. From what I've heard there haven't been that many problems with the 1280 x 800 screens. So you should be ok.
