No matter how hard I try, whenever I carry my laptop somewhere I manage to scratch the screen (I'm assuming this the keyboard rubbing up against the monitor). When I fly to Toronto in about a month for research, I plan to put the black sleeve over the screen but there's no guarantee this will prevent further scratching.

Just curious what most people do when they are forced to take their laptop somewhere. As well, did anybody invest in a screen protector?

Neoprene Sleeve. Laptop Case or Messenger Bag/Back Pack to carry it in (w/good padding).

You can't make your lappy' 100% safe/foolproof. But you can take steps to help prevent it. Just try and take great care when *out and about* with it! : )

I use a few Neoprene Sleeves (the one that came with it), and carry it in a Messenger Bag, or BackPack ~ depends on mood that day.

I purchased this Belkin 15.6" Neoprene Sleeve from Dell about a month ago when it was the Daily Deal for $7 w/FS. It works out nicely. Now, it's $10

I also use the ShaggyMac Screen Protector's that have been discussed in the thread you made yesterday here: Screen Scratches Inevitable?, for further protection.

If your interested in "economical" yet durable & protective sleeves, check meritline, amazon, ebags, etc.

Also, check this thread: Cases and bags for the Dell Studio XPS 1340 and 1640

i just carry it in a slim bag, not even a laptop bag, but i padded it well. How do you scratch the screen with the keyboard? isn't there the black rubber bits on either side to prevent that?

If you search the forum you'll see that this is a documented problem. For this reason, I almost never close my laptop...except when I have to travel.

I carry mine around in it's black cloth sleeve. I carry this around in my Dell backpack...it gets thrown around a fair bit by myself, but I have never had any scratches or marks on the screen....

Just out of curiosity, do you guys close the laptop lid. For a long time there was talk on this forum that the screen was being marked up when the lid was closed. I've experienced this myself, but judging from some of the posts on here others have been luckier than me.

As I said, I always close my lid and carry it around in a backpack...never had any problems with the screen being marked / scratched.

You're lucky. I've had two sxps (1640 and 1647) and each time I closed the lid and carried it somewhere (always taking precautions) I scratched the screen a little bit.

ShaggyMac screen protector between the screen and the keyboard. Laptop goes into the cloth sleeve that came with the laptop. Then it goes into my backpack which has a padded section for laptops. Carry it to and from work (walking for about 20 minutes each way) every day and it doesn't have a scratch on it.

I use the little "case/sleeve" provided with the laptop and put in the laptop portion of my north face hot shot backpack, fits perfectly.
