I'm looking at this Studio XPS which has caught me eye. It's cheaper than the $1200 MBP I was looking at, but what is its durability like? If I'm doing mainly web browsing/typing notes, what type of battery life will I get? I might wait till Windows 7 comes out to pull the trigger which will increase performance. Also, as a side question, is Dell supposed to be coming out with any new models, or is the Studio XPS going to be out for a while?

If you're only web browsing and writing notes, don't waste your money on a Studio XPS 16.

If durability is very important, I suggest looking at the Precision and Latitude series on Dell's website. HP Probooks and Elitebooks, along with Lenovo's T series laptops are a few extra-durable alternatives from different manufacturers.

If I start talking about different laptops, then this thread belongs in another sub forum. I want good battery life and MBPs have that, and practically every PC I've had has eventually slowed down on me, and I know that Macs have their fair share of problems, but I'm trying to find a laptop under $1000 that has good specs and at least 3-4 hours of battery life. If I can't find that, then I might just have to spend the $1200 on MBP because I've heard that Macs last longer in terms of durability and whatnot.

The Latitude e6400/e6500 sounds like a great choice for you. Solid as a rock durability wise, filled with "oh wow" features like a optional back lit keyboard, and with extended batteries, excellent battery life.
