My XPS M1710 finally ended up dying last night. It was a great gaming laptop for around 5 years. So I am looking at getting a new laptop to fill the void. I am considering getting the XPS 17 L702x with the 60hz non-3D 1080p screen? However, I am worried about viewing angles, contrast, color quality, etc. The XPS M1710 had a really great LCD display for its time. It was only a 60hz display, but it had great viewing angles, colors, and contrast.

My question is, how good is the 60hz 1080p LCD screen that comes with the L702x? The 3D 1080p screen has gotten great reviews:

I realize that the non-3D screen will only be 60hz, but is it as good as the L702x's 3D screen in other areas such as viewing angles, contrast, and color? How does the non-3D 1080p screen for the L702x compare to the old XPS M1710's screen?

I used an L702x with the 1080p 2D screen and I've heard from other users on this site that the screen is not good. Some people got a good screen in there's, but a common panel used is an anti-glare ChiMei screen that is very "grainy". I was disappointed to say the least. I decided against getting this laptop for that very reason. Not to scare you out of getting it, but I almost did until I saw that grainy screen; it hurt my eyes just after a few minutes of using it.

Why do you not want the 3D screen, so you can have optimus? I have the 3d screen but only use it for 2D and thinks it's awesome. Very bright and colourful.

I don't want to pay $300 more for the 3D screen.
