I've been looking to purchase the XPS M1530 and I'm lucky enough to be able to capitalize on a student discount. Through the discount program, I can only alter some components of the laptop that I am buying, I'll bold the ones that I can.

    Dell XPS M1530
    Tuxedo Black

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1
High Res, Glossy Widescreen 15.4" LED LCD (1440x900) & 2.0M

4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz (2 Dimms)
    250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0+Enhanced Data Rate)
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    High Definition Audio 2.0

    Finger Print Reader XPS M1530
    Windows Vista Dell Printer Driver
    Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1
    Intel Centrino Core Duo Processor
    Norton Internet Security 2008, 15-month
3 Yr In-Home service, Parts Labor, 24X7 Phone Support
Accidental Damage and LoJack Theft Protection for 3 Yrs
Included 3 GB DataSafe online backup for 1 Yr
    No ISP requested

With discount and tax, the total comes to $1,375.74. Good deal?

Is the processor type listed in the spec?

(If not, how do people know it's a good deal?)

add $80 for 4 yr warranty with a free $70 gift card.... even sweeter

what u listed is what you could have bought from dell.com/epp -> college students in the past 2 months..... i'm still waiting for a special on m1330

    if u dont need/want the extra warranty, wait for a m1530 deal w/ 1 yr warranty ~ $1000....

    Yup, I think I will.

In reponse to paper_wastage: when do you think that deal will come around? I don't want to wait too long to get a laptop.

    check slickdeals.net

    http://slickdeals.net/sdsearch.php?&mode=fp&search=m1530&perpage=20&pagenum=1

there have been a good m1530 deal once every two weeks for the past month, ~$700 w/ 8400(or add $150 to upgrade to 8600) but u have to get up early every day to check, the deal often expires by 11am....

or u could just order what you have.... its a good deal if u need the warranty

go www.delluniversity.com and check whether your school participates(it should if its a college)
theres a m1530 deal right now(dell 10 days of deals) i think its on dell epp too, go check:, $1200, 1 yr warranty, good.... but its not the $800 deals that popped up

the $1450 is a good deal if u cant wait any longer

That is a pretty awesome setup. Ill be the first to admit that I picked the M1530 due to the ridiculous deal I got with my student discount. They basically gave me the three year accidental warranty for free.
