So Dell sent me a 1647 as a replacement for a faulty 1640 but they didnt install the bluray drive like my 1640 had, and now they said that they are not going to ! My 1640 has a slot load bluray drive in it and I want to swap them myself, how hard is this? Is there a tutorial on the interwebs at all?

I am not sure how easy it is. Here is the Service Manual of XPS16. Just download it and run index.htm and it will give you step by step in dis-assembly of this system.

EDIT: got ninja'd by bipul :)

There is the Dell manual with pictures. The " service manual" is the one you probably want. So they will send the BR drive to you? If you have "At-home service" they should be able to come do it for you, if you want.

So I can request a Blu Ray drive and have it installed by a tech? Is there any way that I can get the part from Dell to do it myself?
