i currently have a T61 and am thinking about buying the M1530 for better gaming performance and that LED LCD screen, lenovos arent known for their LCD quality, but i admit that the speakers are pretty badass from the factory... can anyone whoever experienced both be able to tell me the difference?

you really can't expect much from a laptop speaker. However, since the XPS is multimedia oriented, the speakers are supposed to be better.
You can go to best buy and try it, to me those speakers are pretty good. -
I don't have the LED on my 1530..but I can tell you that the speakers on the 1530 are pretty good!Well, to me they are..I have had no issues with them! They serve the purpose I need to them to, for my uses on my lappy!
You will get great feedback on the LED on the 1530's. I have the LG 1440x900 WXGA+ on my 1530. Love it, even thought it's not an LED!
Not sure if this info helps..but hey I tried

i dont know about lenovo, but my XPS m1530 has good quality speakers, not the best, but good, but without bass ( not badass lol ) ( i no longer use them as much, as i bought a pair of small portable speakers that connect right into my headphone port and dont require external power, THOSE are badass, the sound quality is soooo niiiceee, and with SRS WOW effect you get surround sound from 2 speakers )
and if you are looking for very high end gaming, i sugest you take a look at the sager np8660 : http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=90599
Because this geforce 8600gt already lags in some of my games, but still a good card... and im happy with it, but if your are a heavy gamer i suggest a bigger gfx card. 9800GT FTW
Cheers! -
I have an m1530, and I can tell you that although it's a very good laptop and I'm very happy with it, the speakers are really pretty poor. The sound is tinny and there's no bass at all (not even if you put your finger on the speaker casing). However, you can get the general idea of the sound that's trying to come out. Definately get headphones if you want to watch films, play games or (especially) listen to music.

The best laptop speakers are on the Toshiba Qosmio. They use Harmon Kardon speakers.
My advice is if you like the XPS line is to buy external laptop speakers. You can find them at most retailers. Harmon Kardon makes the Sound Sticks for the Mac line that work as well on PC's and laptops.
edit: I found these notebook speakers you might want to check out.

The speakers aren't great to be honest, but assuming you have reasonable expectations then they should be grand.
They're only about a centimetre by half a centimetre in size so base can't really be expected.
TBH I was quite surprised by how loud they could be when I saw how small they actually are, They're TINY -
All notebook speakers are pretty much the same. For any kind of decent sound you have to use a pair of head phones or a set of external speakers. but having said that, you can use them for skype and youtube (loud and relatively clear, but no depth)
P.S : If you are thinking of purchasing external speakers then I highly recommend a 2.1 (with subwoofer) system.
How horrible are the factory speakers on the M1530???
