I'm just wondering how it compares to the Dell E-Series or the Thinkpad T-Series notebooks. I'm expecting it's going to be a step down, but I'm just wondering how much of a step down it is - I want to add a multimedia notebook to it - and the SXPS 16 seems to fit the bill.

    Thanks in advance.

    HI,

I have a sxps 16, and I am happy with the keyboard - compared with both my Thinkpad T61 and new W510. In the beginning I found the keyboard a little "cheap" - as I am used to the Thinkpad :) but afther a couple of days I find the keyboard good, and actually the backlit is useful.

    I *love* my SXPS1640 keyboard!!!!!

It's very light, gentle, quiet, and has a solid feel.
I enjoy typing on it every time.

    =)

the keyboard is just simply awesome. But if compared to the traditional curved key surfaces, you might find the flat keys a little hard to use at first. There will be a multitude of typos :)

I would give it a 100 if they don't have the fissure to store dust.

The keyboard is simply awesome for me! :D
At first, I didn't know how I would feel moving from the "feel" of the XPS 1530's keyboard to this!

My finger's likey it! (very easy to type on..it's very light, yet controllable feeling)! The backlit is a plus, along with a nice smooth palmrest! :D

yea, I think it'd be ever nicer if it were more like the mac-style sort of keyboards where it's just a flat key raised 1 mm above an otherwise flat surface. I noticed I type more accurate and faster on those than the typical kind with the fissures.

but the feel on the xps16 still beats out many other keyboards I've used. =)

My only complains would be the fingerprints and the fact that dusts settles in the cracks so easily.

The keyboard is great, much better than the typical laptop keyboards, despite the fact that my spacebar squeaks when I strike it in the middle, but I've learned to live with it.

Before getting this laptop I was thinking of getting Thinkpad T -series because it has spill proof keyboard, but I am very pleased with the Xps one.
The spacebar is a bit higher than the other keys, but it is ok.

I think it's a great keyboard. No issues with it at all.

I simply love the keyboard. I prefer it to my Logitech G15 sometimes. I really enjoy flat surfaces for some reason.

I was checking out my friends XPS 1640 today and his keyboard had a lot of flex (WAY more than I'm used to with my XPS 1530 [i.e., none]). Is that common on all 16 series, or just 1640, or just his specific machine?
