The XPS has HD and a re-writable bluray drive...so really what makes the XPS and m14x stand apart? I am looking into getting one of them but the XPS is cheaper and seems to have the same features minus the alien fx which I really don't need. Is that really the only difference? Some help deciding would be very helpful. I would like a laptop for video editing and gaming. Thank you and hope someone can help.

With Alienware, you're paying a premium for the name. and maybe for the unorthodox looks too...

aside the gpu that would give the xps a whooping?

I would actually get a hp dv6t qe, which performs equally to the aw m14x, being lighter and ''smaller''

Performance wise, there's particularly no difference except the gpu. The gt555m in the m14x is quite a bit stronger than the gt540m in xps 15.

If you don't mind the difference in gpu then you're probably better off with the xps 15. It has an a lot better screen and speakers and a blu-ray drive all for much cheaper

I think the xps 15 may have a better screen and the speakers are amazing

Pretty much what everyone said. Way superior 1080p B+RGLED screen and unparalleled JBL speakers w/ subwoofers.

    Yep.

You don't get the 555M though which teabags all over the 540m and lesser.

Look here. Alienware rocks. I've got three of them (AP M15x, M11xR2 and an Aurora), I know. But the L502x rocks too. Not as fancy looking, doesn't have all of the AlienFX lighting but I love the XPS as much as I do the AW machines. If you can afford the AW go for it, they rock. If you don't need that cool looking design and lighting get the XPS. Simple.

I'd be embarrassed busting out an alienware in certain places. It's like having a racecar bed.

From what I've heard, the XPS has a higher build quality than the alienwares.

My L502X left speaker sucks even after being replaced x+1 times where x=number of days I've owned it.

And totally agree on the racecar bed, goodness, it looks so silly.

If you want looks and office productively, the Adamo would be very nice.

Na, AW build quality is superior. My AP M15x has a magnesium shell. Pretty damn tough. Feels like a solid piece of rock. And weighs like it too. Besides, I like racecar beds. :p

I don't know how the BQ compares between the two, but my XPS seems pretty solid.

    LMAO :D

LOL. Makes me think of the 50 year old guys with corvette's that wear a leather jacket that reads "Chevy Corvette" in big letters on the front and back.

Anyone miss the previous generations of Alienware when flashing colorful lights and glowing exhaust ports weren't the norm?

Do you guys think Alienware is the best bang for your buck in terms of performance or does that medal belong to another company?

ASUS has a pretty good spec/price value going on. Also, it's hard to beat the HP DV6/DV7s right now.

Stay away from the DV6T-6100s and DV7T-6100s for at least the time being if you use a lot of OpenGL programs. The dynamic switching on the Intel HD & 6770M doesn't work.. It will only use the Intel HD graphics with OpenGL. Mines going back in part for that reason and is why I ordered the XPS. That wasn't the main reason I'm sending it back, laptop is dented and I'm having other issues with the 6770M as well.
