Hoping to buy one but wow, there are a huge amount of problems here.

If I order one now, will this brand new machine have these problems? Have Dell sorted this mess out?

First off, let us just assume that you won't draw the short straw and you'll get a machine that isn't dead/poorly assembled right off the bat, because this can happen no matter which laptop you get.

I have a fairly new 1645 (see sig) that I ordered early in April and received mid-April. The only issue I have had with it are lock-ups during full-screen flash videos, but this was resolved by installing the latest Flash-player beta... though since then I believe the latest video card drivers also solve the problem.

I've never had a problem with crackling speakers or anything with the speakers at all. I uninstalled the crappy Creative X-Fi software almost immediately (I think it's gimmicky, buggy, and useless). I think the built-in speakers on this laptop are very impressive compared to any other laptop I have heard.

CPU throttling is a non-issue now with the latest BIOS and the 135W power adapter (I'm speaking for the 1645 model, as that is what I have), at least as far as I can tell.

GPU throttling can still occur (it's hard-coded to throttle the GPU if it's temperatures reach 84C), but I have yet to have this happen to me. I play games such as Dawn of War 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal, and a few others.

Other issues: I don't know. I have been extremely pleased with my laptop and it has been working wonderfully for me. It's fast and more than capable of handling anything I throw at it. I'm also very comfortable playing around with drivers, tweaking settings, and uninstalling bloatware, so that may contribute to my success with this laptop, as I certainly have removed a lot of the bloat that Dell initially installs with it and have been pretty religious in making sure I have the latest drivers running.

Thanks a lot for the excellent answer! :)

But are you sure it's a 135W adapter? All I can see is a 130W  Suppose it doesn't really matter anyway.

Also, can I ask if it has a recovery partition? Because on my config. screen it's saying "OS Windows® Recovery Media Not included"

    You are right... 130W adapter!

It does have a recovery partition.

Thanks so much! I've added to your rep.

Any advice on going with the RGBLED or not?

Your referring to this?: Dell no longer providing OS disks and Resource CD's for consumer Win 7 systems?

    Or, LINK

If so, your correct..Dell is no longer providing them with new systems :(

booboo12, made a nice Recovery Guide, HERE, if you do get your 16xx, and need to seek use of it. It's "stickied" on the Dell Main forum here. I know he is going to be doing some "updating" to it! ;)

Sometimes on my 1647 I have had a issue of losing my BT. But the reconnection of the Driver has been fairly simple. That had been my only complaint. I haven't had anything else really of a concern that was unnerving for me. (I don't go in and necessarily look for problems though)! : )

Oh, and I have the RGBLED on my 1647, it's simply awesome. The colors, the vibrancy..the everything. If you have been wanting to have RGBLED, and you can get it, it's worth it! :)

I have not seen an RGBLED screen, so I can't lend any insight into a good comparison. What I can say is that I absolutely LOVE the WLED 1920*1080 screen. It's bright and crisp, and the games I've played on it thus far look. I can only really compare it to my 3-year-old Acer laptop's screen, and this screen is miles better than it. I really appreciate the extra desktop real estate associated with the high resolution. By default, the laptop is set to display everything at "medium" (125%) size, but I turned it back to "small" (100%), and everything is still detailed enough to see easily while offering so much more "space" on the screen for windows and text.

I should say that no matter which computer I'm using I always turn off any kind of sound "enhancements", "features", etc...they do horrific things to sound quality. Bass Boost, Surround Sound emulation, Anything that claims to make music sound better/more natural/clearer... all get turned off as soon as I find the setting for it. The small sub-woofer and speakers built in the laptop can't handle extra bass, so bass boost is probably the cause of 90% of the rattling/crackling problems. Though as I already mentioned, I think (once all of the garbage is turned off) that the speakers in this laptop are pretty phenomenal compared to most and much louder than most as well.

Actually wasn't referring to that. It's just on the Customize page on Dell's site where I'm building my machine, it says what I quoted.

Okay will go with the RGBLED then, thanks :)

Mine doesn't go below multi 13.. maybe with furmark+superpi combo it would..but not while gaming (still the multi's vary a lot so it's not smooth)

Same here, I turn all the stuff off but it still rattles at some frequencies

mine had some bad gpu throttling, even though it was brand new (got it 2 weeks ago). I got them to replace the heatsink and mobo and to my surprise it actually works better now, despite the old heatsink being new. I also have a cooler and i think this laptop really needs one.
