Hi
I want to instal Xp beside my vista , I couldn't shrink partiton with My vista DVD and those tricks nor by manage console in vista
A dear friend said that vista just support 4 partition and because M1530 has 4 parti by default(System partition, recovery partition, media direct, and another small partition that probably has the diagnostic tools) , at the first you must del one of them.
I don't want any partition , How could I add another partition?
Thanks

Dude this question basically already exists in another thread:

why make another -
It's not Vista's fault. The MBR Partition Table is limited to 4 primary partitions. The only way around this is to have 3 primary partitions and then 1 extended partition which can then contain more logical partitions. Sounds confusing? Meh..
Partition:
1 - Primary - System
2 - Primary - Recovery
3 - Primary - Media Direct
4 - Extended
-- 5 - Logical - Diagnostic Tools
-- 6 - Logical - Windows XP
Not sure if Windows XP will boot off of a logical extended partition, however...never tried it. But that's the limitation on MBR partition tables. -
I asked it again because I'm looking for a trick to instal XP without deleting one of my partition
Please say a way to add a prtition without deleting a current partition
Thanks -
The problem (I think) for the OP is that he was trying to shrink his C drive and create a new partition out of the free space. But of course there were already 4 partitions (probably all primary) existing, so he couldn't create a new one, even an extended one. And since none of the other 4 were extended partitions, he couldn't create multiple logical drives within those either.
Not sure what option he'd have other than blowing away one of the existing partitions. -
