Do you guys feel it's portable enough to move it around frequently such as in classes for college?

What is the exact weight of the notebook with 9-cell battery?

Not by hand, but in a backpack its not a problem..... Carrying it all day though might be a workout.

Mine with the 9 cell is 3.2 kg. It's not too bad carrying it around, the 9 cell sticks out and you can hold that and the leather and it feels okay.
In a backpack it's no problem. The 9 cell on it's own feels quite heavy so I might invest in a 6 cell for when I'm plugged in.

You may or may not find my discussion about this in other posts, but yea, I use the 9-cell, carry it around in a backpack. Not ideal weight, but not heavy enough to annoy me. I've been totally fine carrying it/wearing it around for the past year. But if it were any heavier, that might be a prob =P

Honestly it feels light and barley noticeable when carrying it around, and while I haven't carried it across a campus I can safely say that a 9 cell XPS 16 is more then mobile. It sure is a nice feeling when I get to my destination and I pull out a true workstation in a nice thin and stylish chassis rather then an ultra portable.

This is why I'm buying it. I'll just snag a 6-cell battery in addition to the 9 to make up for what it lacks in battery life over a wimpy 7inch whatever pos.

Well it's not really a workstation, it's just a high-performance enthusiast/multimedia laptop. In fact, it's design focus isn't on work at all. The most notable feature of a workstation laptop would be a business graphics card such as a Quadro or FirePro (or whatever AMD currently calls their business graphics cards).

That's funny that Vmware is listed in the battery description?

Yeah..this was a separate order they sent to me outside of my lappy order. But, that was the description on the Order Invoice. : )

The 6 cell works great with the 16xx. I use it when "out & about", and when I want to give the 9 cell a rest for my 1647. I had a 6 and 9 cell on my 1530, also.

I call it a workstation as it has tons of power, a large feature set, and a large high resolution screen. Granted I know it doesn't have workstation GPU software (pretty much the only difference between workstation and gamer GPUs), but I can tell you from experience that it will render and do well with the most recently release CAD applications. The cards we use now in our workstations are weaker and do the job fine, with the 5730 it should work well too.

So this question probably needs a new thread, but how much does a Studio 17 with a 9 cell battery weigh?

The specs on the xps 16 say it's 6.3 pounds/2.87 kg, but the real values with 9 cell are 6.9 pounds or 3.2 kg from the posts in this thread. So if the web specs for the studio 17 say 7.08 pounds/ 3.2 kg I wonder what it weighs in real life with the 9 cell?

from what I've read, the Studio 17 with the 9 cell is right at the 8 pound mark.
