Hey guys. I need to clean my laptop screen. What's the best way to do that? Mine is the glossy screen. I don't know if it's actually glass or not but what's the best way to clean it? Thanks for your help!

I have an edge to edge screen and i use pledge clean and dust multi-surface cleaner and it works great, another nbr member recommended it to me.

It's definitely not glass. Use a microfiber cloth (soft, to not scratch it) and wipe it. If there's stuff stuck on it, get some LCD cleaner and use as directed.

I am not sure about the XPS 15 as I have not received mine yet, but on my SXPS 16 I usually use Monster Screen Cleaner and it works great and keeps my laptop looking nice, I use it on the palm rest and lid as well.

i just use a lightly wet paper towel, then a dry paper towel dry and clean the screen and then go over with a microfiber cloth if necessary to pick up the dust.

I second the Monster Screen Clean kit. It comes with a nice microfiber towel and a great cleaning solution- leaves no streaks. Personally, I wouldn't use paper towels or any other abrasive towel on the screen. It's not glass, rather it is acrylic, so using paper towels could lead to fine scratching. I would also be careful about what solution I used to clean it, and go with something specifically designed to clean electronic displays.

Another vote for the Monster kit.
I use it on my LCD TV's as well.

Computer wipes, and a microfiber cloth. Works just fine.

I found this. is LED just a type of LCD? -
Yes. LED (Light Emitting Diode) usually means the pixels are individually lit by LEDs, meaning much brighter, much better screens.
-
Correct that LED is a type of LCD, but its just the type of backlighting. As opposed to older style CCFL LCD.
The pixels are not individually lit by LEDs, typical notebook LED LCD screens are only edge lit, ie the LEDs are only around the edge of the screen -
Microfiber cloth & your own warm breath (it does work).
You can usually get microfiber cloths free from a Eye Dr.'s office you just have to ask.

And much more expensive! Please don't confuse back-lighting LED technology (RGB-LED, WLED..) and when a display is itself LED (OLED, AMOLED). The second option is veeeeeery expensive to be incorporated in laptops with screens bigger than 10"

Thanks a lot guys! I see a trend with the Monster cleaning stuff. I think I might pick up some of that stuff. Thanks for all the info and advice!
-
that you for the info as well. I just ordered some of that monster stuff usually i just use water and a microfiber but i want this thing clean!

Hey just so you guys can stop wasting money on any "screen" cleaning kit. Here is the best way to clean pretty much any screen (TV/Laptop).
isopropyl alcohol and distilled water mix. I use 99% isopropyl alcohol, and mix it about 60/40 with the water.
AND a GOOD microfiber cloth. I don't who's name is on a MF cloth. Until you do a "CD" test don't use it on ANYTHING you care about....
CD-Test: Take a unburnt CD/DVD, and the MF towel on the burn side, use light pressure, hard pressure, mix it up. Then take that CD/DVD and put some light on it. If you see swirl marks (light scratches, JUST like you would find on car paint) don't use that towel. Don't throw it away, just don't use it on screens/car paint
Auto paint correction (removing swirl marks) is a huge hobby of mine. -
All you need is a good microfiber cloth and a few drops of water.
-
what if u got dumb friends and kids around that like touching ur screen even when u tell them not to? they will leave their chicken wing stains on ur screen.
-
A good microfiber cloth and water will take grease stains off no problem (maybe a little bit of alcohol if it's really bad). Though the cheap $5 for 5 microfiber cloths at Walmart are not good to use. Like the poster above said, get a good cloth meant for use polishing or cleaning cars, or pay a bit extra and get a Shaggy Mac cloth.
