Hi!
Since I decided to stick with my M1330, even though its GPU sometimes reaches temperatures beyond 100°C (the CPU never even touches 70°C...), I have a rather odd question:
Right now during playing Far Cry the GPU downclocked itself again, and there is just no way to continue the game in that state. (BTW the downclocked GPU causes cars in Far Cry to jump around madly.) And since I can't just save the game, but have to reach certain savegame spots, I have to just give up.
Is there a way to bring the speed of the GPU to its normal state? Right now I have to restart the notebook to achieve that. Also is there are tool to read the speed of the GPU?
Thanks!
Matthias

Try getting a Zalman nc1000 and call up a dell tech to get you a new heatsink+fan. It helped for me.

Hi!
Thanks for your suggestion! I already got a new mainboard with GPU and a new heatpipe with fan, when I called Dell last week after having experienced this problem for the first time. The temperature problems are still present, and now I think it's because of the inner design of the notebook. It just gets awefully hot when playing 3D games.
Since I wanna keep the M1330, I feel like have to live with this, and I even could. But it's annoying to have to restart the computer because of it. Right now the GPU temp is 60°C and the clock speed is 170MHz (according to GPU-Z). I want the clock speed to go up again! Is that possible?

You can use this program to disable Powermizer.

Hi Lazard!
Thank you very much for pointing me towards that tool. Nice!
But I think it will disable any throttling entirely, and that might not be what I want. I just wanna be able to kick the GPU in the butt after it downclocked itself to reduce heat. It's propably not possible I figure...

It's largely to do with which driver set you are using, some are more prone to downclocking, and some don't downclock afterwards. Some drivers also make the GPU run hotter. The 174.16's have worled loverly for me, so I've stuck with them.

hey weeee,
did the hsf that dell replaced for you, was it different in design from the previous one you had? -
Thanks!

Hi!
I wanna pick up this older threat again, because I just found out something interesting. In the case of an "emergency" downclock done by the GPU to avoid higher temps than 105C I can say now that I do not have to reboot the notebook to undo the downclock, but it's enough to just wait a while for it to go back to standard mode. If that timeframe is entirely temp based or also depending on passed time I haven't found out yet. Also there seems to be no info on this on the internet.
Cheers

How to "normal" clock a downclocked 8400M GS?
