Hey guys, I am using Windows XP.
I would like to install the catalys control center. I tried to just download the newest driver 9.8 that comes with it but it will always abort, saying there was no driver found that could be installed.
    Any ideas?

    thanks alot!

i did a thread about 9.9....(its a very very good driver by the way :)) http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=421592

    anyway.......... .for XP;

    1.
download & install MSXL 6.0 here, (choose x86 for 32.bit system):
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2C-368B-4CE1-9DAB-3E9827B70604&displaylang=en
    2.
    bring home modded package here:
    http://www.driverheaven.net/frontpage/modtool/download.php
    3.
then bring home Ati 9.9 (XP 32.bit) here:
    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?driver=VideoCard/xp32-suite
    4.
then start installtion of the Ati driver, BUT cancel the installation once the driver is extracted. (the Driver will be extract into C:/Ati/Support)
    5.
Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ -
(- hit modify. Wait until driver is modified)

    6. restart your computer............done !

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if you use XP (64.bit) just do the steps but replace the driver with this one:
    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?driver=VideoCard/win7-64-suite

May I know what's the mobility modder for ? Why can't we just install the driver straight from the installer ?

Because the driver is for a desktop GPU, not a mobile GPU.

ATI doesn't release drivers for mobile GPU's, they let the OEM's worry about it. As a result, we get crappy Dell drivers.

So, you download the desktop drivers, run mobility modder, and voila- you get the newest drivers that will work on your mobile GPU.

    Thanks for your clarification !

So right now, under Device Manager > Display Adapters > ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670.. My driver version is 8.603.1.0.

Does that mean I'm out of date and I have to update it to 9.9 ?

    Did you mod it correctly?

Remember, after you mod it, you need to install it. The directions given above were incomplete, go by the directions on mobility modder's webpage.

Hmmm... its not in your program files or anything?

Are you suuuuure you downloaded the latest desktop driver for the 3000 series? At this page? For your version of Windows (32/64)?

Version 9.9 is the one listed on ATI's site, at this page for download.

Download those drivers, start installing, wait until it says they've been extracted and it starts asking you installation options, then cancel the installation, mod the ATI folder with mobility modder, try installing the drivers again (if you do it right you shouldn't get any errors, if you try it without modding you will get errors) and then restart... you should see the ATI icon in your system tray or program files.

When Im installing, should I install it to x86 Program Files ? The original is in x86. But when I install the new one, it's going into Program Files.

Also, Do I need to uninstall the previous one first ?

You don't need to uninstall the previous one.

It doesn't matter where you install it. Have you opened the suite to verify it was installed correctly?

I am pretty sure I got it installed. I removed the ATI installation files in C: . Then reinstall the whole thing, this time I did not use the mobility modder, I could install fine. Any idea why ?

Later, I reinstall the whole thing again, mod with mobility modder. But still I couldn't access the control center, it doesnt come out. Any idea why ? I could see the process in task manager but it quickly closes. Why !?!!

well, as i see, actually ATI does release drivers for mobile GPUs. just select Mobility Radeon on the Product Line and there you go, u can get the 9.9 driver from there as well, and there's no need to use any modder. i tried this official and the modded one too, haven't seen much difference..

I now understood what the mobility modder is for ! I tried without modding, it won't install the Driver and the Control Center. After modding, I could.

So I uninstall everything and use Driver Cleaner Pro to further clean it. And reinstall everything from scratch. It works now =) Thanks !
