Hello,
Am looking to replace my dying LED Display (Yes it is LED, confirmed) and am thinking of buying one from eBay.
Was wondering if there is a way to find out if the display is New and genuine Dell (of course Dell doesn't manufacture it but the OEM supplier). My older one is CMO1555 display.
Should I hook the display and look in Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Display -> Properties and would that be enough or is there something else that I need to do?
Thank you for your assistance.

Dell doesn't make display panels. The common display panel manufacturers used by Dell are LG, AUO, Chi-Mei, and Samsung.
In fact, everybody uses those panels. So you won't really find a "counterfeit" or "junk" panel, because nobody else makes panels besides a handful of companies. So if you buy an LCD panel, it will come from one of those companies.alexhawker likes this. -
My original panel is made by Chi-Mei and the panel clearly shows the manufacturer on the label at bottom left.
However the image from supplier does NOT have this name on the label but has a sticker "GWD" with some Asian characters on both sides. Seems maybe like refurbished/repaired unit. -
GWD is a legit manufacturer of LCD displays (just Google the terms "gwd lcd" and you'll get a ton of results confirming this.
If you're worried about getting a panel that is compatible and/or of equal quality as your original panel, then the safest thing to do is to just go out and buy the exact same make & model of your display panel. Because buying LCD panels can be tricky. First, you need to make sure that the panel is compatible with your laptop (has the right type of connector / ribbon cable). Second, you need to make sure that the panel physically fits in your display bezel. Third, you need to make sure that the new panel has the same image quality (color, contrast, brightness) as your original panel. The tough part about all of this is that you can do research on item #1, but often will not be able to do research on #2 and #3 without actually buying the panel and getting it in your hands.
So if you just want the safest and lowest-hassle route, just buy the exact same make & model of panel that was originally in your laptop. -
By the way, just about every panel you find on eBay will be a refurbished or salvaged part. Panel manufacturers (factory) typically do not sell individual panels directly to the public. If someone has a replacement laptop panel to sell, then it most likely came as a salvaged part that was pulled from a dead laptop, or it was purchased from a middle-man company (usually a service / repair shop) that bought LCD panels in bulk from the factory, and managed to sell individual units to the public.
