    How to get Dolby 5.1 sound from xps 1530?

    I have a amp that takes optical input and every other thing conceiveable, how can i get 5.1 sound to play through my home entertainment as it does not to sound through the hdmi on my amp.

    Definitely doesn't work for the M1530, since the internel S/PDIF output of STAC9228 is connected only to the HDMI transmitter, but NOT to the S-Video out.

    The adapter S-Video -> S/PDIF does work though on other Dell devices. A lot of people therefore assumed they'd get S/PDIF out of S-Video for the M1530, but that's not the case. It's even contained in the user manual:

    That means your choices are:
    . 5.1 through analog headphone jacks
    . 5.1 through HDMI
    . 5.1 by means of external sound card (USB, Expresscard, ...)
