Ok, so recently, my dad and I just got m1530s, and sadly enough, both our screens were SECxxx - samsung screens. Although the screen wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, the colors were still washed out, and it was grainy. So, my dad called the support service, and using some clever wordplay, he got 2 replacement lg screens! The key is to mention light leakage. Light leakage is a DEFECT! But, according to Dell, graininess and bad colors are subjective. So, he requested specifically for the (LG) XK309 (after explaining to the guy that Dell gets its screens from different vendors, some vastly superioir), and literally the next day, a very helpful Dell tech came by and installed both LG screens. My new screen is amazing. So much better. I know some people were having difficulty convincing Dell that their crappy samsung screens needed replacing, so I hope the two words: LIGHT LEAKAGE help you guys out![]()
The best of luck to anyone trying to get a new screen, just remember, it's worth it![]()

Excellent! Thanks for the info.
Mine hasn't even arrived yet (shipped today) but I just know I'm going to get a craptastic Samsung screen. That's great to hear that you and your dad had such an easy go at getting them replaced! -

I've noticed that the screen on my XPS M1530 will only go back so far until the lower edge catches and creaks against the edge of the battery. Is this just a design feature of the XPS or is mine faulty. At a guess I'd say it goes back about 120 degrees before it catches.
-
This is due to the barrel hinge design which prevents the notebook display going back to (near) 180degrees like most other notebooks.
-
I can't say that this isn't normal, but I will say that mine does not stop at 120 degrees.
-
This might vary depending on whether you've got the 6-cell or 9-cell battery installed, the 9-cell protrudes out from the back of the laptop so I suspect the display will not be able to tilt back as far as it would if the 6-cell was in place.
-
.....when I got mine done the bottom part where the Dell insignia was, that part was loose.. does anyone else have that or is it just mine.
Thanks. -
They probably missed one thing while they were installing it.
-
So no one else has this problem? -
Wow, mines a standard 6 cell and there's no way it can go back that far. It's the the underside of the black plastic strip with the XPS logo that catches the battery on mine.
-
How far back does the screen go without the battery?
-
quick question, is the bottom part strip of your laptop where the dell insignia is, is that part loose? cause mine was when i got mine replaced
-
just gently rub your finger along the whole strip starting from the outside in...it will eventually snap into place.

So I took the plunge and ordered an XPS M1530 right after Christmas, got it and loved it ...except for the screen. So I eventually (after getting the screen ripped out and replaced by some Chainsaw Massacre tech) got a replacement. It came today and ...NOOOOO! Another Samsung screen!!!
I was on the phone for THREE HOURS with Dell doing a "return and re-order." The first guy was basically like, "we don't want your business any more." No kidding. He was like, "you got two computers already and if you don't like the third you'll return it? Forget it." What a lamer. So I arranged the return with him. Then after I hung up, I promptly called again and got someone else and arranged the re-order.
My initial laptop was a Tuxedo Black and the replacement was Midnight Blue. Sorry, I only thought of taking pictures after I had boxed up everything and returned it, which I did immediately. (My credit cards are going nuts because I basically have like $9000 worth of computers on them now, which almost made me faint. I basically can't use them at all now.) But basically what people are saying is true about the color. If you look at them in dim light or at a very acute angle, the Midnight Blue looks exactly the same as the Tuxedo Black. But in bright light or viewed directly face on, the Midnight Blue looks like a deep blue color. I like both colors, actually, but I'm gonna go with the blue.
Also, reports that the Samsung screen have been discontinued are false. Just wanted to let you guys know. On my second call, the supervisor said that the screens would "probably" not be used any more "if" there had been a lot of complaints about them, but since she couldn't actually verify that this had occurred, she said that she could not guarantee that I wouldn't get another Samsung. -
My XPS m1530 just shipped out today with this: My m1530 just shipped today.... Has this: LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, SAMSUNG...
I heard they were phasing these out but now I know it's probably bs. -
Yea, not really sure where the rumor started. Apparently some CSR told people this. It may be true though. Phasing out means they're using up what they have without ordering any more. May be a while before it's phased out though.

the sec3350 blows. don't know why they are even using that piece of garbage.

I live in Tacoma, WA 30 miles south of Seattle, so there should be Dell tech guys closeby here. -
I was surprised about the blue color. It looks nothing like the blue on Dell's web site. It looks nice, but yeah, it looks almost black most of the time.
-
Yeah, but we're all returning them. And what do they do with all the returned computers? They can't use them as new ones, presumably. So the new computers -- mine were almost completely unused, I turned it on one time -- become "used." Someone makes out like a bandit.

A number of issues.
First of all, you don't need to claim light leakage. You can get your screen replaced no matter what. I said it was grainy and they made me run some diagnostics, but then they replaced it. No questions. Of course, I still got an SEC back, but that's another story. Dell is serious when they say they will honor all returns. Even if I have had to go through a lot of trouble, they've been very good about that.
Second of all, as posted in a different thread, you can mention the part number but at least a few people have reported -- and it happened to me -- that they can't recognize it. I told my customer service representative to look up the part number and he said he came up with nothing. So this is not a guaranteed solution. If it works, great.
Third of all, I got tech support, too, and they replaced my SEC with another SEC. They just order the part, but it does not specify what brand manufacturer made it. It's a gamble, as I understand it. As for me, I plan to continue returning my laptops until I get a non-SEC. If it takes me a year, I'll do it. Thing is, laptop prices have gone UP since I ordered my M1530, so I'm actually still winning. -
My M1530 WXGA+ display shipped today appears to be LG
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, LGP -
On my 1st M1530, when the repair guy replaced the screen, the bottom of the bezel was hanging loose as well. I could never get the bezel to snap back into place, so this, along with the fact that after 2 screen replacement attempts to get the LG failed, I returned and reordered.

Its just like the white, I saw a white 1330 in BB the other day and it was glossy to my surprise. They make it look matte in the stock photos.

When I had my Dell notebook screen go bad I was told it was a user-replaceable part, even though I had an in-home warranty plan in effect, and had to install it myself.
That was the last Dell PC I ever bought or will buy. -

Are they using the faulty Samsung screen on all the resolutions ( 1680x1050 - 1440x900 - 1280x800 ) or just certain ones?

Ok . . . now that I have everyone's attention (5 or 6 threads were merged to make this one).
There are way too many threads on the M1530 screen issues. We have an FAQ dedicated to these issues and unless you have some obscure question that is not answered in there, post in this thread and do not create a new one.

And search the forum before posting, it's easy. Use the site search box in the top right corner of your screen or the "search this forum" option located in the border at the top of the forum. I prefer the site search since it uses Google.
Thanks for your cooperation.
