Okay i just got my xps m1530 today and i am amazed at how bright the led is. It blows my old toshiba away. I wanted to know

    1) how to install jolack.
    2) what should i uninstall? i bought a 320 hdd and have 261 gigs free, is that normal?
3)what else did everyone do after the got the comp? i already checked the specked and they checked out
    4) i have a wireless N card and the mbps is fluctuating between 32 to 48? and i have a 108mbps router. My old laptop was always on 56 mbps. Is there a reason for that?

    1. Cant help you there.

    2. Everything, do a fresh format with the Dell CD, then use it it reinstall drivers or search the internet for updates.

    3. Noted above, one thing I personally reccomend is taking the covers off the back and meeting your laptops hardware. Learn what everything is basically, you'll want this information to learn how to apply your own thermal paste cooling and get your laptop running cooler.

    4. I can only think its connection quality that would cause the fluctuating.

With regards to 1., make sure you register your 1530 with Lo Jack BEFORE you do a clean install. I made the mistake of going straight to a clean install without even bothering because I thought I had a Lo Jack installation disc (since one came with my 1330). Apparently, there should a be shortcut somewhere on the factory image to register with Lo Jack. If you don't do this, there will be no way to register with Lo Jack after a clean install.

if you purchased it on your pc before you got it- it should have come installed on it- or just search for it within the start menu. You also can call lojack- just have your dell invoice ready then you can prove you purchased it and get it taken care of (if you can't find the installer) :)

I formatted before registering LoJack. I called LoJack support and they just wanted a copy of my invoice and they sent me a registration code so I could download the software from their site and set it up.

I made the mistake of calling Dell first and they weren't really sure what to do. They really tried to help and even called me back a few days later telling me to call LoJack support, which I had already done.

Ha. Yes, I made the same mistake of calling Dell first and they were pretty much at loss for words. Contacting Lo Jack was definitely the quicker route for me as well.
