How would a newbie go about installing Windows 10 on the 32GB SSD (1TB HDD + 32GB SSD version), while keeping it on RAID because i've heard of system errors?
I've read multiple guides, but most are for replacing the SSD or for ones with only 1 drive.
Thanks!

Don't install it on a 32gb SSD. It isn't worth it unless you have at least a 256gb SSD.
I posted a guide on this forum on how to do it.

Why is it not worth it? Would it be faster using it as cache?
I read a review on the Dell website and someone said they just had the hdd and it booted in 18 seconds. My laptop takes a few minutes now.. so i think i'll see a difference regardless. -
Because once you install Windows, you won't have any space left over for anything else.
Anything that gets installed to program files... Needs to go onto another drive. Big windows updates? Might run out of space.
If all you're doing with that SSD is measuring boot times, you're wasting your effort. You don't get SSD benefits from windows boot times... You get it from load times of everything else you run on the system... Apps, games etc.
If you're set on keeping a 32gb SSD in there, youre better off just keeping your drives configured as-is, and letting your system use that 32gb SSD as a cache. That way, you can potential accelerate load times of a lot more than just windows boot times. It's only worth doing a windows reinstall onto an SSD that is at least 256gb.

Ok, thanks. I just started looking up SSD last week, so i haven't been sure what the 32GB actually did. I never even considered windows updates, either. I was just comparing what the person said because my computer only has 1TB HDD and they did too, but their XPS booted faster than mine. I was looking into getting a 250GB Samsung SSD but i'm not confident enough to deal with the Windows reinstall and Bios settings; might mess something up.
As long as i can see the affects of the 32gb, then i'll be fine. -
I replaced the 32gb with a 256sd and installed windows and drivers. I'm showing 34gb used but not sure how much of that is pagefile. I think it is technically possible to install it on 32gb since i think windows 10 is smaller than windows 7 but I agree it'll get tight with windows updates and any recovery features. However if you want to use the 32gb as cache with the 1TB then you'll really just be installing on the 1TB. You wouldn't even see the 32gb. If you disable the RAID, then you'll see the drive.

I might just leave it alone. With 15% tax here in Canada and with multiple discounts, the 512 ssd version would still be very expensive (which is what i would of preferred). The 1tb + 32gb is already over $2k.
I mean, right now i just have a 1TB 7200RPM and i find it fast for day to day usage. Would i see any difference in speed at all with the new laptop? -
If you're on a budget get the Samsung 850 evo M.2 256gb drive which is around $85 US. That'll provide much better performance than the stock performance.

I've decided i'll just get a 512gb or 1tb ssd next year since i don't want to purchase everything all at once, since it'll be quite a lot. Thanks for the input

So my m.2 drive is on backorder for a few weeks. In the meantime, I will use the 9550 as shipped (32GB SSD +1TB HDD)
Windows 10 Pro came from the factory installed on the SSD and (barely) fits. But I need to be running a fully updated version of windows 10, which will not fit.
When installing "Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586" an unfortunate window pops up under "Windows Update" banner with such comments as:
"Windows needs more space".
"We need 6.63GB of space on the drive C:\ for the upgrade..."
"Choose another drive or attach an external drive with 10.0GB available"
The drop down allows me to choose the 1TB SSD or the USB key but then says:
"You need an additional 3.43GB on the drive C:\
Whilst waiting for my m.2 drive, how can I easily get the Windows updates installed?
Thanks!
