I'm installing windows xp 64 on my new studio xps 1640 (it arrived yesterday!) but I can't seem to find any audio drivers that'll work! Can any person that had the same problem help me?

We can't even get proper audio drivers for xp 32. for some reason, the inbuilt mic does not work so i think it will be even more difficult audio drivers for the xp 64

    Hello,
I have a problem with the ATI drivers. I'm trying to following the the tutorial that we can see here :
    http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php

    I download
    - .NET Framewok 3.5 (NETCFSetupv35.msi)
    - ATI driver (9-6_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe) 512MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3670 graphics card
    - Mobility Modder (MMDotNETSetup.exe)

I have no problems when I'm installing NET Framework 3.5, but ATI drivers & Mobility Modder said me that no .NET framework have been detected (2.0 or higher). I tried with .NET framework 2.0, but the same thing happened...

What can I try to do?

    One more thing:
How to install chipset drivers ( http://rapidshare.de/files/40173743/...autol.zip.html) ? Maybe I didn't read something...

Thank you for the XPS16 vista-->xp tutorial, and sorry for my english
    Chon

PS: due to this framework problems, the installation of easybcd (for dualboot) seems also to be impossible
PS2 : here is a french tutorial for dualboot http://www.programmez.com/tutoriels.php?titre=Installer-XP-apres-Vista-en-dual-boot&tutoriel=80 TUTORIEL EN FRANCAIS

    STUDIO XPS 16 (N06X1603), Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (2,4 GHz, 3 Mo, 1 066 MHz)
    # 4GB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
    # 128GB Solid State Drive Ultra Performance
    # INTERNAL BLU-RAY ROM COMBO (BLU-RAY, DVD AND CD READ, DVD & CD WRITE) SLOT LOAD DRIVE WITH SOFTWARE
    # 512MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3670 graphics card
    # 16 inch (inch) Truelife 720p HD WLED Edge to Edge Display

    EDIT EDIT EDIT
    Finnaly, it's working...
I re-instaled windows XP and I used .NET Framewok 2.0 (not the last 3.5 version)
After the http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php tutorial, don't forget to install the ATI drivers that have been modified... :)
For the chipset, I used the R192750.exe (Intel PM45 Express Chipset Family contrôleur bus)
    http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=27&fileid=265073

I have just now just few problems:
    - 1394 card
    - WinTV
    - unknow device

    Thanks for all

Any new progress on installing XP on SXPS16?

I tried it, but some drivers won't be installed, also the visual onscreen feedback for brightness, volume, etc doesnt work.

Just like the eject button, no way of getting it to work.

Btw, has anyone got other downloadlinks for the drivers except that rapidshare-thing?

I end up going back to vista, since i want a full functional notebook... :(

Ok, so after a day of driver loading, it get`s down to one last question:

Ist there any Dell Quickset that works with SXPS-16?

Quickset is the application that shows the visual states of volume, brightness etc on screen.

I got that tool that makes a custom volume show up, but is there something like that for brightness etc as well?

But I heard that installing Dell Quick Set might solve this.
Anyway to download QuickSet for Windows XP?

    Cheers

navhonda84, How did you finally fix your video problems on your Dell XPS 16 laptop? I can't get any driver to load for my video card. Do you have one that works that you can share? Thank you for any help.

The Ati Catalyst Control Centre and drivers version 9.9 when modded using the driverheaven tool mentioned on the first page of this thread work well. Just follow the procedures on the DriverHeaven site here:
    http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
I installed the sound OK using Dell's R204591 install.
    http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...eid=R204591&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=285278

The problem as others have mentioned remains the mike. I do have a microphone boost button in the advanced recording settings, but even with it on, the gain is extremely low and only tapping the left hand mike hole gives any reading at all on Skype.
I haven't run Vista on this machine at all, in fact I took out the Dell hard disk before I powered the machine on for the first time.
When Win7 appears, I'll put that on it: unfortunately my Beta versions have expired and I didn't bother to download the RC version.
I've yet to start looking for the TV drivers and app for XP.
The 5100 wireless lan card works OK for me using the Intell 5100 driver.

Edit: TV now works using the Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T CD download.

    Hi

Great Post. I bought a couple of XPS1640 for work with Vista as there was no downgrade option but as we have our own licenses i thought, as i have done it before, i could rip of vista install xp equivalent drivers and off i go. However in fact this has been the most troublesome task ever!!

I have now got XP running on the laptop, the ATI 4670 drivers being the most troublesome. I followed the drivers heaven tutorial to the T, but if i use the latest catalyst drivers (9-11), it just does not work. it installs fine, i reboot, but the laptop just does not run properly using the new drivers. I looked through the posts and apparently 9.9 works, so i tried it and it did and the laptop appears to be actualoly running using the drivers. Howwever if i try to load up any of our applications or anything relativly graphical the frame rates are awful!!

I put vista back on, installed same apps and the vista drivers and the applications simply fly!! great frame rates in them, which leads me to suspect it is some sort of driver issue. Can anyone help?

The XPS Studio Laptop 1640 is:

    2.8 Dual Core
    4gb RAM
    Ati 4670 512mb

btw, VISTA is not an option as 50% of our applications dont work on it!

    regards

    Whisky_Delta

Have I just done something stupid, or do those rapidshare links not work anymore? I am just now coming upon the frustrating process of trying to put XP on my 1640. If anyone has any updated links for those drivers, that would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

Because Pro Tools LE won't run on Windows 7... unless you have the Beta 8.0.3 version, as well as new updated recording hardware. My PT 8 worked just fine on XP with the original Mbox, not so much with Win7. Was sent a Studio XPS 1640 under my warranty with Dell to replace my Inspiron. That's why I'm not letting it go just yet.

On a different note, not having any luck getting the webcam to work. Am I on my own on this one, or is there a magic place I need to go to make this work. Obviously besides peterf, no has posted here on this thread in about 6 months, so sorry to bring up old stuff, but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Run 64-bit Windows 7 and use the built-in XP virtual machine. It offers seamless program integration so you don't even know it's running in a VM. W7 is so much better than XP (and I'm an IT manager for a fortune 500 company).

Running Pro Tools inside a VM is highly not recommended (or any other DAW software, for that matter). But thanks for the suggestion
