I bought a DELL XPS 1330 with Vista pre-installed. I want XP installed on mi laptop. But when I try XP setup get the following warning

"Setup didnot find any hard disk drives installed in ur computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly conneected to ur computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup ,press F3."

Plz tell me how to install handle this problem and successfully instal XP???????

Your problem is AHCI. Either turn it off in the bios or leave it enabled and 'slipstream' the Intel storage drivers for your chipset (it's either GM965 or PM965) and burn a new install disk. When you do the slipstream just add all of the drivers in the INF and you're good. As the previous poster mentioned, just search the forums for the key words and Google 'slipstream' as there are boatloads of info on this.

Most users prefer XP in order to have the computer work how they like, vista takes far too many steps to let you do anything. I find that giving a user far too many warning boxes makes them click without reading, and therefore can lead to the wrong box being hit. Compatibility issues ignored.
