Had some damage on the hinge..not sure if I got a refurb. screen or not. I have returned but will reorder and now get the highe resolution. We canadians only have 2 options though. The machine was awesome for the 2 days I put it through it's paces...7700 with 3gb and 8600gt. Having spent around $1800 plus taxes though... I want this thing damn near perfect. The fingerprint reader is a cool option for logging into Windows as well as any password website. Cheers!!

got my m1530 and i can safely say the laptop is incredible and then some, please trust me this is an excellent buy, keyboard feels great, wsxga+ = beautiful and i recommend that you get that screen resolution, vista works pretty well with my hardware (but all i have is an ipod, external hd, printer, etc) anyways ask if you have any questions : I have vista home premium, 4 gig ram, good processor

also the 9 cell battery is awesome because it elevates the laptop, allowing heat dissipation and a nice little typing setup.

I would have voted either excellent or not bad but since you put the hardware/software problem qualifications I had to vote bad. I did have a major hardware issue, I got a bad motherboard that died after a few days. I am happy with Dell's customer service and their prompt response sending me a new motherboard. Besides that issue, I am very happy with the laptop.

Only had it for one day, but the machine does not sit flat on a desktop. The left front is higher, so the machine wobbles. No other problems noticed, but I've asked for a replacement.

I love my M1530, I have had it for a week now and it has played TF2, AA, and CoD4 with more than satisfactory results. :p And maybe I just got lucky but I don't see any scratches or any other hardware issues. I haven't tried the Mediadirect software but all the other software works, atleast from what I have tested.

Have to say for the price I paid and what I got I couldn't be happier :D (esp since there wern't any defects or cosmetic problems) The only thing that bothers me is that it can get a little warm, but nothing a cooler doesnt solve! Two thumbs up to dell on this one, def happy I returned my 1520 and waited for this.

I know this probably isnt the best place to ask but does anyone have any tips on how to remove finger prints on the lid- it's not horrible but I'm a clean freak ;)

    1) Turn off lappy
    2) Get microfiber cloth - should be like 5 bucks or something
    3) Use given liquid solution or you can use water, and damp a little part of the cloth,
    4) Like cleaning a CD sweeping motions not applying too much pressure with the damp side of the cloth
    5) Dry with the dry side! Done!

Well I voted not bad, but I lie somewhere between not bad and excellent. The computer has been running just fine except I'm not completely sure about the DVD drive. Not sure if it's having issues or not.

When I was searching for a laptop I wanted something I could game with, but when I saw the price for a 17 incher I was like "Don't think so." Also I wanted something that didn't take up a whole lot of space. This computer pretty much fit all the specs I wanted in a laptop. To have all those specs in a 15 incher is very nice. So I put in my vote, but consider it upon further review.

I've had slight blacklight bleeding on both units I've received, touchpads that are erratic after you open the lid on both units, and been disappointed by a few other things. It has all the specs I could have wanted (which was why I ordered it to begin with), but the delivery has left something to be desired in both units I've received. I wouldn't pay any amount of money for units with the flaws that I've personally had. It does seem that many don't have these issues, but I find it a bit more than coincidence that both units I've received have had similar issues.

as we see, there was no surprise in midrange apple laptops today, so im going to continue this poll, for better accuracy.
BTW, according to basic statistical method, this poll does not prove anything, b/c its not random and blah blah blah....only those with strong feeling have voted.

Both TF2 and COD4 looks and works great. I have just finished Crysis. Great game and it ran great =)

My M1530 works just fine except from static through the audio port. A repairman will come tomorrow...

Thanks, lindstroem! What kind of settings are playing with to get good performance and looks? I had read somewhere that most games play fine on the M1530 as long as you have anti-aliasing and antriscopic turned off, generally around ~40 fps. Is that what you are seeing too?

    I can't wait!!!

I just got it 2 weeks ago and delivery date is 1 exact week from order date. I have no problems whatsoever that I was scared of when I was researching on the product. It's maybe because I didn't order anything that would require special attention such as resolution, color. I love this black color on my DELL.

I've been withholding my vote to see the outcome of my screen problem, but as I'm pretty much resigned to returning it now, I put my vote in. I'll probably be ordering another one to try and get a good screen, though, so I put #3 (Bad, major hardware problem).

It's very difficult for me to answer this poll because I don't fit in any answer group. I became dissatisfied with my LCD monitor, but I think that was more "grass is greener" syndrome -- I was fine with it until I started hearing from everyone about the graininess and then started seeing graininess. (I know ...) And that's fine, too, but then I didn't want to go through replacing the parts endlessly. And that's not being entirely fair to Dell because it's certainly reasonable to replace parts rather than the entire computer, but I just couldn't put up with it personally.

So I'm not dissatisfied with my Dell, in a ways. If I never read about it on the forum, I'd probably be happily using it right now. It was otherwise perfect.

I get my new Dell within a week of online order and I am VERY pleased with the purchase. However not even a week after using it, the battery no longer is getting charged. A call with Dell will get them to send me a new adapter the next day. I use it and still nothing, so now I have to send it in to get a new motherboard. If that comes back and works well with no problems, I would call it a good experience.

Is there anyone else out there who needed to get a motherboard replacement?

It only took 7 days to get to me from the day I ordered, 10 days early from projected shipping date!
I've had mine for over two weeks now. No problems whatsoever!
This last weekend I did a clean install and some tweaks to speed it up some.
    I love this notebook.

You can say what you want but when you receive a poor screen after shelling out over 1k, it's a major letdown.

Dell knows full well they are shipping these screens but they are saving way too much. I just got my xps m1330 today and they offered, $150 and then $300 for me to keep the system. Grainy screens are horrid compared to the non-grainy. I'm gonna return it and probably pick up a 1530 but won't hesitate to send back a grainy screen.

It would be interesting to see though how many of those voting "Bad', did so because of screen problems (e.g. sam3350) :D
I think that was the major problem with M1530.

Well... I had a screen problem, but the service post this has been excellent so far. Better than if I had a problem with say, my TV. I went days on end without a Sony once because they ship it off to get it repaired, with Dell, I get someone sorting out in front of my eyes.
