I've ordered a Dell XPS M1710 with he following specs:

    Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)
    Dual-Channel 2048MB (2x1024) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
512MB DDR3 nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX graphics card
160GB (5,400 rpm) Sata Hard Drive

My question is: will it play Bioshock and BF2142 to a high standard setting or will I have to make compromises? Would Oblivion run well?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve.

2142 should run on high, not sure about Bioshock, I doubt it will. Oblivion should also run fine with medium-high settings.

You probably shouldve waited for the XPS M1730 which is coming out soon.

they should all run quite well. I can allmost run bioshock on high settings with a medium resolution and your card is way better than mine.

    By "Medium" Resolution, this guy probably means 800 x 600 or 800 x 500 (for 4:3 and 16:10 aspect ratios, respectively) ;).

But, with your card, you should be able to run Bioshock at a pretty decent resolution with High settings (around 1024 x 768 or 1024 x 640).

It's a shame you won't be able to run it under DX10 mode, though :(.

As for BF2142, you can run that game at High with minimal problems even at higher resolutions (say, notebook WXGA resolution--that's 1280 x 800).

Oblivion is going to scream...I get medium high settings on a X1600 at 1280x800. 2xAA, Bloom, and quite a few other settings...many documented in my nc8430 review.
