My replacement XPS 15 came in and the screen is BUSTED at the top right.

This is a replacement for a replacement!!!! why cant they just do something right for once :(

Now the choice is: keep the one with the busted screen or the one with the overheating and busted speakers.

    tough decision :(

Does the busted screen atleast fix the fan noise or heating problems?

I am sorry but I would make dell replace my system till they get it right, I don't care how many times. These laptops are too expensive not to be happy. Work with the busted screen till they get another one to you.

got offered a refund or have dell tech replace screen. Most likely going with the screen replacement. Is HP the only other notebook with a RGB LED screen?

The XPS15 doesn't have an RGBLED screen. The B+RG is a top-class display, don't get me wrong, but it is WLED, not RGB. The Alienware m17, Dell Latitude E6500, the older SXPS16, and the one HP Elitebook are the only laptops I can think of that have RGBLED displays.

If its the 1080 screen considering the issues with them running out of stock i would somehow do something to make sure its not just the same one repaired when it comes back (small mark or something). If they offered a full replacement and subsequently just repair it this could be treated as refurbished and i would expect a refund of some of the money paid.

I aint sure on these screens but most have a parts number you could identify it by.

in this case, i wouldn't really blame dell, i would blame the courier service. our office had an entire shipment of Dell monitors (10x E190S LCD's) arrive, all of them broken/shattered. the boxes all point to being dropped from a very high location, given how damaged the boxes were. Dell would never purposely send you broken parts.

Though Dell could spend the extra $2 on better packaging.

    Just sayin'. ;)

You could also say we have to pay extra for accidental cover with them so what do they pay us when the accident is theirs? :)

though not as bad as manufacturers used to be. once had a Toshiba laptop (loaner) that had well over 20GB of crap - of that maybe only 3GB was installed, the rest were "backup files"!
