I have not been really as satisfied with my new laptop as i had hoped. I got the crappy samsung lcd, still waiting to have the new lcd installed and i dont even know if it is going to be the LG. the harddrive, 200gb 7200 rpm is louder then i would like. the left palm rest gets hot, the webcam sucks, hp webcams are awesome in comparison. the system seems slow even after de-bloating. maybe i am being to picky but at $1,700 shouldnt I be?

If you are going to order another m1530 anyways, why not just ask for a replacement??

Yeah I'd send it back. My HP has a seagate drive and its quiet and gets a little warm but never hot. I also have a LG screen which is brillant. I agree that some of the LCD's that dell sends out are pathetic. For 1700 bucks its a shame dell used a crappy SEC. Sounds like your ready for an HP. Only problem is HP has weaker GPU's for gaming. But for 1700 dollars there are probably allot of options available. I agree the vostro might be one option being they have a larger case.. probably run cooler. Don't know about the web cam though. But yeah, they are also a tank.

If the LCD screen really bothers you, then send it back. I can't blame people who want perfection and hate the screen. If the risk of adding problems wasn't there just to get the screen replaced, I might have considered it too. The screen protector on my Nokia N75 is exactly the same so it's not as if this really bothers me...I would not have known this was a problem had I not read all the information about this before receiving it. I still believe this glossy screen displays super-sharp and gorgeous pictures. I don't plant my face up against the screen, so I can't be bothered one bit by the Samsung screen when I am using this system on a daily basis. I showed my colleagues my system and NONE of them knew what I talked about and I had to go into detail and ask some of them to look UP CLOSE to see what I was taking about... and some probably just acknowledged what I was talking about as an after-thought... everyone seemed to be pretty darn impressed with it... then two of my colleagues went ahead to purchase XPS 1330s because they liked the style but wanted less weight for portability.

My hard drive is not noisy at all. Maybe you have a defective drive, maybe you need to stop the indexing, I don't know. My left palm rest is warm during usage, but never "hot".

The webcam is much brighter and a bit sharper than the Logitech 4000 Pro that I have, and the Logitech 4000 Pro is rated to be a very decent webcam and probably the most popular webcam several years ago. I love it and I do chat with friends/relatives overseas.

No bloatware here, because I bought it with Vista Home and wiped it out to install Vista Ultimate.

The touchpad was giving me problems, but after I toned down the sensitivity (VERY LOW) it hasn't given me any problems when I type... and the touchpad isn't affected, the arrow is still almost just as responsive.

It's probably not the BEST notebook out there, but I can find problems with *ANY* notebook and bash it to hell so I won't do that here because this laptop is very satisfying for me.

I hope you have sent the system back by now. I heard Everex Cloud notebook has no issues and a non-grainy screen. You might want to get that instead.

    I dunno, Jack...that might be a bit optimistic! ;)

Lots of people have complained about the Samsung screens, the elevated harddrive noise, and the heat. So these aren't isolated problems. You might be able to solve the screen issue by going with the WXGA+, which will give you a much higher chance of getting an LG. If the hard drive sounds (which even professional reviewers have noted), and the heat are really objectionable, then you really should go with a different notebook altogether.

Ok... I had TWO XPS M1530 (highest resolution). And sent both back!
The laptops ALL have the issues described. Samsung screen is bad period... Some people can notice it, some people won't (and will live happy with it). I just noticed it because of the hysteria/paranoia in this forum (that I got into). The hard-drive is OK... it makes a clicking noise now and then, but it's completely OK! The slot loading DVD is completely normal (makes the noise a slot loading drive is supposed to do)! Warms up to very bearable temperatures. There's hissing noises from the headphone jacks and there's the tingling sensation! I have to say that, appart from the screen, the other issues are really minimal!
I'm sure there are people out there that dedicate their lives to find problems (I'm a bit like this)... Like these people that watch movies just to find mistakes, problems, etc... One word of advise... Don't get carried away with all the paranoia! I had 2 M1530 and I can say it's a great laptop... I did return it (and just received the full refund) because of the screen, but mainly because I'm thinking about getting a M15x. Given that the last has so many problems, maybe I'll just get a XPS M1530 (1440X1220 this time) again!

    Cheers

Whats wrong with Samsung screen and why is LG so much better?

Any proof that it is better and how can you tell what screen you have gotten?

the best way i can describe the screen problem i have is this:

imagine taking your ipod apart, the lcs sreen seperated from the outer protetion screen, its like they werent bonded correctly, it doesnt look as clear as it should.

Send it back. I've had that feeling before too with a Toshiba. Had some minor problems but they really annoyed me so sent it back with some trouble!! Although now I'm happy as ever with my current laptop.

Not everything is about gaming btw...If you want a XPS, then get the XPS m1330. That seems to be a lot more reliable than its bigger brothers.

    My turn...send it back :D .

If you don't notice anything wrong with your screen, DON'T TRY TO FIND OUT. Because you might find that you have one of the Samsung screens and whereas once you were perfectly fine with it, now you are devastated because you THINK it's REALLY bad.

Well that just means you don't want or like the laptop in the first place. If you're trying to find a problem then surly you just want a reason for why you hate it.

I've got the Samsung screen on my XPS M1730, but I'm still unclear about the grainyness issue? My last monitor was horrible, so comparing the two is like night and day. I'm still within the two week return period, and this site has concerned me about the issue. Is there any kind of wallpaper to download that can enhance this issue?

well i called to find out what the status was for my new screen and dell said the vendor cancelled the order?!! they reordered the screen and i also had them send me a new hdd and got the call that it will be delivered tomorrow by noon. the one thing that sucks is they told me that the new hdd will come pre-loaded with the os and bloatware! guess i will be de-bloating tomorrow night! hopefully the computer will be up to snuff when this is all done. i am leaving the country in a few weeks and need a reliable laptop, that is why i have been dreading sending back!!!

If you haven't noticed anything, then there's no reason to be concerned. Some of the Samsung screens have visual fidelity issues, but not all of them. The abundance of posts on the issue leads everyone who finds out they have a Samsung to doubts it's quality, sorta like mass hysteria. It almost got to me, but once I really started gaming on it, I snapped out of it. I've had better screens, but at this point, it isn't of low enough quality for me to be without it while it gets replaced.

thanks to everyone who suggested I send my m1530 back. dell rushed my replacement build, ordered it Friday and it shipped today via overnight so i will get it tomorrow. I got the LG screen according to my service tag so hopefully there wont be any other issues, I also got upgraded to the T8300 processor for free.
