Are you sure your laptop isn't preinstalled with SP1? If you have a T8300, then the window to purchase a laptop without Vista SP1 is very small.

Vista SP 1 has nothing to do with bios. Right click on my computer. Then click on properties. If u do not sp 1 among the system info then just update vista through windows update. Simple as that

    hi asel,

have you done any customization to your windows vista b4 you install?
does vista came with factory installed? or did you installed by formatting it later on.

have formatted and installed the vista (i mean other than dell version)?

if your windows update unable to show the sp1, you can always manually download from microsoft site or any other site.

here is the link to download sp1 manually, there in you can run the standalone installer, this shd work fine.

Hi, there is a known issue with this but I can't remember the exact details. It is something along the lines of a driver (sound, I think but could be wrong) needing to be uninstalled then update shows sp1 and then after sp1 you have to reinstall the driver. My apologies for not knowing the details. The best suggestion I can give is to search for the information on the forum (it's in a thread somewhere). Other than that, downloading and installing it will get the job done! Just had another thought; call up Dell Tech support to see if they know about the issue and/or search the Dell forum.
