IIRC the remote works through the Quickset application.

Do you say that I should check the Quickset application?
I have done it already. It works with no problem.
But remote control does not. Thanks

I looked into this a little bit and I guess it just works like and HID mouse and and windows installs the drivers for it automatically. If I go into my hardware manager I see and HID mouse under mice and pointing devices. I guess you can start there to make sure the driver is installed. In the Vista 64 drivers thread it said Quickset covered the remote, media bar, etc. I don't see anything about the remote in Quickset though. I didn't install anything else that I can think of except for MediaDirect that I think would have anything to do with the remote and mine is working fine.

Thanks for the reply. In my hardware manager, I cant see it under mice and pointing device. I have installed Vista 32 bit.
I think I have to search this issue more.
    Thanks again.

The driver mine is using is a Microsoft driver and I didn't install it myself unless it came in with one of the things I installed from the 64 bit driver thread.

I have formatted my vista 32 bit home pre and reinstalled it.
Although I did everything, my remote control still does not work.

Could you please give me the name of that microsoft driver or the link?
    thanks for your support, friend.

They are all Microsoft drivers so they should be included on your Vista disk. I see some under "Human Interface Devices" which are "HID compliant consumer control device" and under "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" I have "HID Compliant Mouse". Under the HID compliant consumer control device when I click on driver details it says no drivers are required for this device. When I click on driver details for the HID Compliant Mouse it lists two driver files mouclass.sys and mouhid.sys both under the c:\windows\system32\drivers directory. It seems like you should have warnings in the device manager window if your drivers aren't loaded. I did read that the IR card can be turned off in the bios so you might want to check there also. I don't remember seeing that last time I was in there though. I even read about some people changing the driver to give it functionality with the generic Media Center remotes. I even came across a trouble shooting thing for the remote not working on the Dell site and they had you try a bunch of different things from checking the remote battery, checking for receiver window being blocked or dirty, etc. but never mentioned anything about checking drivers.

    Thanks for the reply.

They are all exactly the same as you told.
    No warnings in device manager.
Everything seems OK. But it still does not work.
    I will check bios.

Maybe it is the remote itself then. Double check the battery.

How can I test the remote itself or its battery whether they are OK or not?
    Do you have any suggestions?

Funny I was actually thinking about that earlier. I know on a few of my home theater components one of the lights blink when it receives and IR signal even if it isn't for it or maybe you could use a learning remote where the lights blink to confirm it got the signal or just try replacing the battery.

    Hey guys,
Good news. My remote starts to work. But how? Very funny.
I had plugged the battery to the slot so many times before (almost everyday) but it wasn't OK.
Of course battery is in the CORRECT ORIENTATION.

At last, (2 minutes ago) I just opened the battery slot and I took the battery and I licked it with my tongue to feel if it has energy or not. Then I plugged it. And push the sound button. Ahaaa, I saw the quickset icon on the screen.

I tried it with windows media center. It is OK now. It is enjoyable to use this device.

Thanks for your replies and interest.

    Amazing!!
I was having exactly the same problem as you. Reinstalled Vista and the remote stopped working. I took the battery out many times, but nothing happened. Until I LICKED it, and started working again. I did it as a joke, laughing at your post, but it did the trick.
    Thank you!

I just went around my house licking everything that doesn't work. I thought for sure I was going to have to have warranty service come out and replace the hdmi port on my TV, but since I licked it the think works great. I have one light on a lamp that hasn't worked in ages, I will have to go plug it in and give it a lick.
