So I built my L702x with the 555 but didn't like the price increase. The day I ordered it I researched and found the performance increase to "only" be 10%. So I quickly called dell and canceled before my 24 hour grace period and changed it to the 550. A few days later and all I seem to read is definitely get the 555. Lol I don't know. I game but not hard core. I wanted to try the witcher but other than that I play mmos. So what I am asking is for some expert on here to alleviate my fears and say that card is just fine lol.....just fine. Is it that much better to have the 555?

The fps difference is closer to 15% but yeah the 550m is perfectly fine for this kind of laptop, where you might occasionally play an MMO or console port. For games like Witcher 2 the m17x + 460m might've been a better choice though

The performance difference is almost negligible when you overclock the GT 550m. I get over 1700 points in 3DMark11 and over 7000 points in Vantage.
Default values for the clocks are 475/900. I can raise them as high as 740/1000 for 0 errors on OCCT. A higher overclock will result in some errors which I avoid. -
Thanks for the input guys. I am not as melodramatic as my original post sounded just for the record. I know there is nothing I can do at this point as dell marks it as shipped as of 426 yesterday. Stupid question time. I know of over clocking but not the how. Is it safe and how do you go about it or should a novice leave such things alone?

Overclocking is quite safe because you cannot touch the voltage on these chips. Its basically downloading an overclocking software such as MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision, or Nvidia System Tools then raising the clocks at 10-25 increments. You must test for stability after each increase by using OCCT or other GPU intensive games.

Thank you, I will do that when it comes. As I said it was shipped yesterday and I am in Canada so I am trying oh so hard not to hold my breath. I sure wish the android market didn't have an app for tracking packages. My OCD has hit an all time high.......or is it low

The 550m can overclock, but so can the 555m. The 555m can overclock to close to a GTX 460. That said, the 550m will probably be fine for you. Get it in, check it out, then see what you think.
I feel sick (gt 550M)
