Yes its true.
My notebook eletrocuted me.
First I thought my arm felt just weird silver material around the notebook I figured it would be routh to my skin or something.
But when I lay my arm diagonal over the touchpad, I will actually get electrocuted!
What the hell!!?

hahaha! that was my reaction when i got my 1530. Though its just a tingling sensation when you try to rub the palm rest of it. I bought a 2.5k lappy with an electric shock on it
i almost returned it but they couldnt offer me a better laptop hence i stick with it. So far it only occurs when i plug in the power (3 pronged, take note), plug in the network cable, and behold.. free tingling sensation.
-
I feel so bad that I laughed upon reading that! Sorry haha
Call Dell? -
-
i think something must be wrong with your electrical connection socket.
the same tingling sensation i used to get when i connected the power socket to some particular switch points at my place.later got the electrician repair the sockets .now i dont see any tingling sensation
i own dell xps 1330. -
Which side of the palmrest? Was your palm/arm sweaty? What were you doing (gaming, normal activity?)
-
Have you tried to see if it electrocutes different parts of your body yet?
That would have been my next diagnostic procedure.... -
that feeling sucks, I get it when I plug my XPS in an ungrounded outlet...
however "electrocution" is a though word... a ground discharge, as annoying as it is, does not count as "electrocution"...
thankfully I recently moved to a new house with grounded outlets, so I can finally use my laptop with bare feet!!! -
Illegal Operation Notebook Evangelist
That use to happen with my m1530. However, I made a custom vinyl cover that covers my palm rest and goes up the sides of the keyboard and that fixed it. Although, that wasn't my reason for doing it, I just didn't want my palm to mess up the brushed aluminum since it is on there for so long while playing games.
If you're having discomfort though, Call Dell up and see if they will replace it or have alternatives for fixing it. It was a new adapter for the m1530. -
If you're electrocuted, how are you still typing this?
-
-
(I just got shocked by my Studio XPS 1640.)
Also what is going to be next? You are always finding something wrong with your SXPS 16 and then complaining about it to no end! Am I the only one who is sick of it ? -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
hmmmm if this was an electrocution what would you call putting your finger in a socket? well for this crazy guy atleast....when one hears electrocution they think of putting a finger in a socket or electric chair agree with Diaz2010 should be shocked and call dell if its a problem
-
And if you dont like the OP finding things about the laptop, then dont post on the OP's threads, and no harm done, is not like the OP is doing any harm to you, simply being concerned about the laptop owned. -
I think Dell forgot to turn off anti-theft. =)

At OP, perhaps you could give Dell a call and ask for your model to be replaced? -
If you are continually having problems like this..(and this is not normal), you should not be shocked each time you use your touchpad/palmrest area. You need to contact Dell, and have them fix this! Use your warranty.

Well, I have other concerns right now than getting my laptop exchanged.
Plus - dell has already repaired this Notebook twice. So I am pretty sick of calling them as well.
Why I posted this you asked? Well I wanted to know if other people had similiar problems, and if there was perhaps an easy solution for this. -
Perhaps using rubber boots? Shouldn't the connection have a ground pin?
-
Just call dell and have them check your laptop out. Mine was just a tingling sensation, nothing to be bothered or shocked on. And as long as i dont plug the network cable and use it with bare feet, its ok. If your "electrocution" is more than a sensation then better call up dell and have them check it out. Last thing you need is have the internal parts being affected later on, specially if you're out of warranty
-
Its insane to not call Dell on this, if it is really causing some kind of shock, twice is a real problem, once could have been you building a charge several ways you can build a charge, but twice is too much.
It was not electrocution (I'm a physician I know) it was a shock. A real electrocution you should have gone to Hospital and you would have entrance and exit marks on your body.
Call Dell if it repeats get it fixed it could be a major wiring problem and something could fail later. -
OMG Its the attack of the NERDS... you all know what he meant so stop correcting him and help.... efffin smarta**es
-
Just as a side note, I am German by the way. And I looked up the German word for "Strom Schlag erhalten" Which is by the way not necessarily deadly.
I didnt know it was different in English.
*cough* -

Well Chrusti it sounds like something might not be grounded and you SHOULD call dell to get it sorted out could be a number of things (since the touchpad shocks you its probably the panel its attached to , but in all honesty i hate calling dell as much as the next guy but its a necessity if there is a hardware problem which seems to be what your having unless you feel comfortable taking everything apart but even then it could jusst be a defective panel.
-
Haha, I just told my girlfriend to use my notebook. After she got shocked she actually refused to come near the notebook.
Anyways, I will be calling them tomorrow.
This mostly ocurrs during gaming by the way. -
-
Well excuse me for being a foreigner.

Alright he gets the point about it not being Electrocuted drop it problem solved anyway we should....close the thread
-
Could you please stay on topic?
This is almost a war here!
Thanks
Now, to the OP, if your laptop gives you problems, they have (warranty) ro change it so easy as that, and if still not working a full refund.
I just got electrocuted by my Studio XPS 1640.
