I got lucky with the nice LG screen and keyboard doesn't have that bump in the middle.
So far, everything was working fine, however, the eject button doesn't work. The only way it would is if I go to the drive letter and choose eject. Someone else here had the same problem, and Dell replaced the media bar and that solved the problem.
I guess I have no choice but to call Dell tech support or is there another workaround to solve this problem. Thanks in advanced,
Hcp.

How do you know its the LG screen?
-
Look at your service tag or check under device ID.
-
Before you do anything, check the media bar. If you have left the clear protective plastic covering that it ships with in place, it makes the buttons much less sensitive. Once you remove the plastic, it will be extremely sensitive. (Almost annoying, since the buttons activate when I brush dust away.)

I just tried that and still doesn't work. I also have another question, when I insert a cd, the driver sucks the cd in after there is about 0.75 to 1 inch left. Is that normal?
Thanks in advanced,
hcp -
No, I'm going to order it so i want to know which screen is better 1400 x 900 or 1650 x 1050. *If those aren't the exact resolutions it's because i don't have the dell page open*
-
Wait... you want a nice screen and an eject button that works? C'mon.
-
That's how slot-loading drives work.
-
Not on all. The Wii for example sucks in a disc after you put 1cm in. But on these XPS laptops you are correct and that's the way they work.
-
Thanks a lot for the quick answers regarding the the slot-loading drive work
For now, the only thing that is not working is the eject button. Is there any way to make a shorcut or script to eject the CD/DVD? Thanks again

If you go through this board threads, you will find that you have better chances of getting an LG is with the 1440x900 resolution. I personally like the 1440x900 better than 1650 because the higher resolution makes everything looked so small...
-
Lol! Yeah, I like everything to be perfect
-
maybe there's a missing wire to the eject button - which explains why you don't have the bump in your keyboard like everyone else!
-
No lol. I have taken apart and put together many m1330s and m1530s which have the same chasis design and the cables that run under the keyboard are the video and wireless antennae cables. The most common culprit for hte keyboard hump are the antennae cables because it is very difficult to get them to sit in the groove.
In response to the OP's question, I strongly feel that this is because of a loose connector cable. The cable that connects the touch-sensitive buttons to the motherboard is very small and needs to be fastened in well to prevent it from jostling out. The fix is simple, remove the right and left hinge caps and gently remove the media panel. The cable should be beneath the media buttons. Make sure that it is fastened well and the security latch is aligned with the vertical line on the ribbon cable. For more detailed instructions, consult the m1530 service manual, which is available at support.dell.com. -
booji, thanks a lot for such a detailed response. I don't feel too comfortable messing with the laptop right now. To be honest, I have only done ram upgrades and that was it...
I have bookmarked this page for future reference. As a temporary fix, I have downloaded wizmo http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm, saved it in c:\windows, created a shortcut targeting "wizmo quiet open=E", and saved it as a quick launch icon. It will eject any cd/dvd media.
Thanks again

I dont consider myself a big computer tech guy at all, but the hinges and the black cover above the keyboard are quite easy to snap off and put back on, you'll find the paper thin cable right under the power button.

Problem solved
I downloaded the latest BIOS and it works now!!! Thank God!
I would also like to thank everybody for your help!

Yep. My Inspiron 6000 has the higher resolution, and the text is really small. I personally think 1440x900 is "just right" for a 15.4" screen.
-
Ahhh, good. Congrats!
Since you seem to be an expert
, which do you prefer (and why): the m1330 or the m1530?
-
You are welcome, my child.
-
I actually prefer the m1330 simply because I wanted something light and portable. I have been using an Inspiron 8600, and Latitude D8xx notebooks since 2004 and lugging them around was painful. Both machines are excellent and you couldn't really go wrong with either. I love the m1330 because it is extremely light (i.e. the lightest notebook I have owned).
To the OP:
I am glad everything worked out. Best of luck and congrats on the new m1530. -
Good to know... thanks.

I could never go back to anything lower then 1650x1050. At first with my 1505
which was 1650x1050 the fonts were too small. But I got used to it and never looked back. A buddy of mines has the 1400x Rez and I think the fonts are too big........
I ended up with 1680x1050 LG on my M1530 and its amazing!!!!!! Much better then my old 1505 1650x1050

You must have really good eyesight.

i currently have a 15 inch 1400x1050 and ordered 1680x1050 because i want more space to fill, hope the letters aren't too small but i think it'll be fine
-
Hey Darkside, thats the main reason why I went with the 1680x1050 over the 1400x1050. At first the fonts will be a bit too small for you, but give it a week and you will never look bad.
-
On my Inspiron 6000, I have the 1680x1050 and I had to set the DPI to 120... Otherwise, I would gone blind
Now going back on my original post, I haven't had much time to play with my new toy since the weekend, but everything seems to be working fine
Thanks again for your help guys!!! -
Same here. It helps with text, but pictures & graphics on web pages are still tiny.

I had this same issue, but with all the media control buttons except for the power button and the media direct button. I have next day in-home service so I gave XPS Tech Support a ring and they had a guy in my house two days later. Popped open the black plastic XPS M1530 speaker thing at the top, switched it out with a new one, and it worked like a charm afterwards. Whole thing took less than 30 minutes to do.
I just got my new XPS M1530
