Can it still play all the new games and the games that will come out in the next few years at a good resolution and framerate? What about 3d?
Also, this might be a stupid question, but hey, you never know until you ask: the XPS16 excels as a "media" laptop, what does that exactly mean?
Also, XPS has the best available screen on a laptop currently right? If so, doesn't/should that help it out in the gaming category?
Finally, I am considering the XPS16, or the Macbook Pro 17'. Which has better display and can someone list the pros and cons of each?
thanks alot in advance guys

ive seen youtube vids of people playing wow and crysis smoothly so id imagine its pretty decent.
-
the XPS will be a lot better to game on...
if u are going to get a MBP u can probably get a M17x which it will AMAZING on games
or u can get this one too 15 inches screen or this one 17 inches screen
i would go with the 17 inches cuz its faster it has a bigger HDD and it has 6gb ram
but if u want something smaller the 15 inches one will be really god too -
the issue with the m17x is that it is weigh to heavy(srry for the corny pun
) Also, its display isnt as good as mbp or the xps16.

what about the other two ??

I was wondering this too... (sorry for asking in your thread)
I just bought it with the 3670, and the only games I play are like strategic war games, like the most recent one at the moment would be Starcraft 2 when it comes out, and then like Rome: Total War, and Star Wars: Empire At War. Do you think the 3670 could handle those types of games? And maybe Sims 3 but not necessary?
Sorry again but was wondering this too -
it will handle but it will be on medium settings

shows wow and crysis. This is with the 3670 so 4670 will be better. -
It should be able to handle any of those definitely. E.g. the machine can play Crysis quite well though only at low resolutions. The part that makes the question more difficult is what settings do you plan on playing games at (i.e. maxed out settings at 1080p)? That said, the games you listed should be relatively fine for the most part if you are only a casual gamer.

I have a Studio XPS 1640 and use it for gaming. For strategy games I play World in Conflict on high (1366x768 res.) and it runs great.
I'm a first person shooter guy.. so I can tell you about performance on those games.
Counter Strike source, Day of Defeat source, Team Fortress 2, Left4Dead etc, all run great maxed out (excluding antialiasing because it cuts framerate down significantly on the hd3670 and you dont need it on smaller screens).
Dead space runs great max 1280x720 res (which is still a great res for the laptop size). GRID also runs well at that res.
I'm impressed with it for gaming. I mean at the end of the day laptops aren't as powerful for gaming as desktops but I think the Studio XPS 1640 is awesome.
Btw my specs: Intel P8600 2.4ghz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, ATI HD3670 512mb, and I got the standard 1366x768 screen option.
Great laptop. -
Oh ok, I mean I got the RGBLED screen but I mean strategy games are fine at a bit lower. Thanks guys!
*gives thread back to the real owner* -
yeah but the 260 GTX would still beat both
-
Yea but that's for dedicated gamers

Guy thanks!!!!
NP bassflow, your Q's were helpful for me too
That youtube clip is REALLY convincing! -
XPS16 is definitely a capable gaming machine with ATI's 4670. As long as you don't expect to max all settings and resolution then you will be very happy with it.
-
muahahah.

Don't listen to brunoroc. -
What about GTA 4 with a T9900 (3,06Ghz). The dutch dell still sells it with 3670.
-
GTA 4 its quad game so it will demand a lot from ur cpu and gpu
idk much about this combo but i think it will be playable at medium settings -
With a 3670 and a T9800:
CS: S: All settings maxed out, 16x AA, 1080p resolution runs fine
CoD 4: 1280x720, all settings maxed out
NFS: Underground: 1280x720, runs fine, then lags once the laptop heats up (30 min?)
GTA 4: All settings on low-medium, 1280x720 runs fine but looks like
HAWX: All maxed out and 1080p
GRID: All maxed out and 720p
I know XPS16 isn't a 'gaming' laptop, but how bad/good is it?
