Because of an abrupt power surge my (xps 15) adapter's supply is not working anymore (but the laptop is fine) although the fuse found in the plug is fine but the blue led is dead hence the adapter is dead. (thts wht the local tech told me after changing the fuse and checking it with different meters). He says it could be repaired but its better to get new? What do you say people?
The model details on adapter are as below,
    PA 3E FAMILY
    EA90PE1-00
    Dell P/N: KD8HY
    Output: 19.5V, 4.62 A

Please list compatible chargers if I cant fine the one with exact specs.
Also I live in a country where I wont be able to order from dell so I ll have to rely on local retailer who is selling the original one for around $25. Is there a way that I could check if the charger is original?

Please reply I really need your help here.

You do not have a warranty on this machine?

I think that if you call the Dell Support line, they should replace you the adapter. I've gotten the one of my old Inspiron 6400 replaced twice in the four years I had it.

the XPS15 is released less than 1 year and dell's basic warranty is 1 year...so, you should still be covered by warranty. I would call dell tech support and ask for a charger replacement instead of wasting money on aftermarket stuffs...

I bought a spare from an online retailer for $40 shipped that was designed for the Precision and 15"/17" Latitude series.
Basically any recent 130w AC, 6.7a, 19.5V adapter that works with the Latitude E6400, E6500, or Precision m4400 will work with your machine.
The one I bought is a version 3 I think, and the new 130w adapters are version 4, but it works just fine.

REALLY? is my adapter is under warranty too? I called the retailer that I got laptop from and he told me that there is no warranty of adapter and battery!!
I live in Pakistan. I called two guys from different retailers and they told me the same thing.

Those are retailers and not Dell itself. Try using your service tag and see what warranty you have: Dell - System Information

Then I really advise that you call Dell Tech Support. It never hurts to call them and say your power adapter does not seem to work. ;)

    hey man!

another problem that you need to solve for me.

I got this replacement adapter from local retailer, it has the same rating of 90w with 19.5 volts and 4.62A printed on its sticker. its model is DF266.

I looked for this model online and I found out that its a discontinued model. may be i am wrong.

but while charging my xps 15 it gets extremely hot, I mean if you put youru hand close nough you can feel the heat coming out of it. Its not like my laptop is under a lot of stress most of the times, usually i am running firefox etc..thats it.

what i read online is that it could be because of the load of charging the laptop, as its an old model so i guess my laptop is proving to be heavy for it..? should i get it replaced?

The original one that came with the laptop got fried up because of power surge, it had a VOLEX cable, it saved my lappy from a 300 volts surge. its details are as follows,

    PA 3E family
    model: EA90PE1-00
    dell p/n KD8HY

    replacement adapter: (currently in use)

    PA 10 Faimly
    dell p/n DF266
    model: PA-1900-01D3

PLEASE resolve this issue man! why is it getting so hot? or may be i never noticed the old one..its charging fine though..right in time. its winter season yet and i dont know what is going to happen in summers if it continued like this..

and this is the only thing on dell's website that i found to be COMPATIBLE with xps15, if you click on the vertical column to the right of the product then you can check the compatibility with different models, i dont know how true is that but here is the link,

DELL Dell 90-Watt 3-Prong Slim AC Adapter with 6.56 ft Power Cord for Select Dell Inspiron / Latitude / Studio / Vostro / XPS Laptop / Precision Mobile WorkStation : Laptop Accessories: Webcams, Keyboards, Mouse & More | Dell

Well, duh, the entire studio, xps, inspiron, and business lines uses the same adapter.
